**About the role**
As a ScotCen Research Interviewer you will conduct in-home surveys with members of the public across a wide range of interesting topics and policy areas such as transport, health, education and housing.

Previous experience is not required. You will receive full training when you start, and ongoing support will be provided. Simply being a good communicator and projecting a positive attitude will make you successful in the role.

This role is not office based. Travelling to residential areas as part of your working day is a key part of the role. You must have sole use of a car with business insurance and a valid driver’s licence to apply. Home broadband is also essential.

ScotCen does not conduct marketing or sales activities. Prior to your visit, all households are sent an introductory letter explaining in detail the purpose of our research inviting them to take part in our study. This is not a Market Research role.

Your typical 35 hour week will be conducted over 7 days. At least 50% of your time will be carried out during evenings and weekends.

**To qualify as a Field Interviewer you will**:

- Be outgoing, confident, a great communicator and be happy to meet new people;
- Be able to work 5 days a week (35 hours) with at least 50% of this time being worked during evenings and weekends;
- Have a valid driving licence and sole use of a car
- Have Internet broadband at home;
- Obtain a Basic DBS before commencing work for ScotCen
- Regularly speak with your manager who will support your development;
- Be comfortable with using computer equipment;
- Be adaptable to the changing requirements of the role, such as using new computer equipment and software;
Your CV and cover letter demonstrating your:

- Self-motivation
- Communication skills
- Planning and organisation skills
- Documents to verify your identity and to show you’re eligible to work and drive in the UK;
- References for your past three years of work history.

**Key Responsibilities**

After completing initial training, an interviewer’s work will involve:

- Being trained on each survey;
- Using a laptop computer to download work via broadband;
- Locating, planning routes and travelling independently to the addresses that have been sampled for each survey;
- Visiting addresses and make face to face contact with residents to set up survey appointments in line with project deadlines;
- Conducting face to face interviews using the appropriate equipment (e.g. a laptop and showcards), which will be provided by ScotCen;
- Adhering to survey questionnaire protocols (e.g. following question wording precisely);
- Completing administration tasks at home and regularly electronically returning work once completed;
- Attending additional training and regular supervision as and when required;
- Being in regular contact by telephone with your Field Performance Manager;
- There will be some administrative work
- No sales required
- To perform any other reasonable duties that ScotCen may require that are consistent with the broad nature of the job.

**Skills Knowledge and Expertise**
- Available to work 5 days per week, 35 hours a week with at least 50% of this time being carried out during evenings and weekends; (21 & 28 hours contracts will also be considered)
- Have a valid driving licence and sole use of a car, to drive to residential addresses which are typically within one hour from your home;
- Have business insurance when using your vehicle for work
- You’ll have internet broadband at home;
- Be comfortable with using computer equipment;
- Clearance of Basic DBS check before commencing employment.
