**Job description**

We are looking for an Assistant **Herdsperson** (2ic) to join our high performing dairy farming business near Ashbourne.

**Our Business**:We milk 420 high yielding pedigree Holstein cows 3 x day through a GEA Westfalia 26:52 swing-over parlour with auto ID, Apollo dip & flush system and glycol cooling milk silo. We achieve excellent cow performance and efficiency in our all year round calving herd through meticulous attention to detail in key technical performance areas including health, fertility and feeding. We readily adopt the latest techniques to allow the herd to achieve their genetic potential along with investing in technology and infrastructure such as modern cow housing, genomics, CowManager monitoring system, Juno feed pusher, robot scraper, and fully automated foot crate. Heifers are reared on a separate but linked unit 5 miles away. We have external support for key roles such as RMS (AI), silage making and slurry spreading to allow the farm team to focus their effort and attention on cows. We are proud Arla cooperative members, supplying milk under the premium of 360.

**The Role**:You would work collaboratively with a lead Herdsperson, a hands on owner operator and other team members. As a key member of this team you will play a lead role in supporting our cows and youngstock through the proactive management of key herd health, welfare, production metrics and associated record keeping and data analysis. You will share responsibility for milking with the other team members. Night milkings are generally covered by a settled relief team so you would provide only occasional cover as required.

**Skills, attitude & experience**: We are looking for someone who loves working with cows/ calves and preferably has experience working with an AYR calving herd. You will have keen stockmanship skills, attention to detail and enjoy working in an environment where new techniques are readily tried and tested. Someone who is naturally positive, reliable, efficient, a good communicator and who takes pride in their work will thrive in our friendly team. Experience using farm management software would be advantageous, however, we will provide training. We will develop the exact role to suit the interests, experience and skills of the individual. A valid driving licence is essential for this position.

**Location**: Working in an attractive rural village, in the stunning Derbyshire countryside. Only 5 miles from Ashbourne and 10 miles from Derby.

**Salary**: From £28,000.00 per year
