This role involves the receipt and preparation of samples to be made ready for testing in a timely and efficient manner. The Blood Sciences Reception takes receipt of all Pathology samples, sorts them into the correct discipline and then works with those samples for Blood Sciences. Samples are labelled and the data entered onto the computer. Samples are prepared for testing which may include centrifuging, aliquotting, racking or packaging for sending away to other laboratories. Reception is the first point of contact for Trust Staff, porters, visitors and sometimes patients. The work includes early or late shifts and some weekend working. There is now the opportunity for progression within the reception role, for the right person, to a Band 3 and then possibly a Band 4 level. There is no direct progression at this time for the Generic Portfolio for BMS registration, so if you have a degree in Biomedical Sciences, this is not the role for you. We are looking for a person that would be happy to progress, if they would like to, within our Blood Sciences Reception department. If you have basic English and Maths qualifications, can use a computer, are a hard worker and want a chance to join our team on a full time basis, then this is the role for you.

To assist in the preparation and technical work of the various sections of the laboratory. To use the Pathology computer for data and result retrieval, and to sort, print and distribute patient reports. Tasks associated with data entry and retrieval will constitute approximately 50% of all duties. To be a first point of contact for patients, Trust staff and other visitors to Pathology. All duties are performed under supervision. The job description described encompasses all duties required, but there will be minor differences in duties on each site.

We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London.

As we recover from Covid-19, we’re proud to be leading the way nationally in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The pandemic provided the drive for our teams to innovate and change.

We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and our performance against the four-hour emergency access standard remains challenged, in comparison to many other London trusts.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also pleased to be part of the NEL Cancer Alliance.
