**Contact and Assessment worker**:
Job description

Full Time / 37 hours / Permanent

Are you a dedicated, energetic and empathetic individual?

Join our team and predominantly supervise contacts between children in care and their parents or carers and undertake parenting assessments within the Contact Service, amongst other duties. The Contact Service Team provides a flexible and quality service for children in care, their parents, carers and Social Workers. We ensure safe contact between families and their children as well as educate parents to be able to provide the right care for their children, so that they can remain in their care or be returned to their care.

We are a large team, we are united, we share the same vision as to why we are here, the child’s voice is paramount as is our drive to keep all children safe from harm. Fun, creativity and laughter can be heard and seen and our dedicated staff team use their shared skills so that “family time” is a time that everyone enjoys.

We are currently recruiting for two permanent Contact and Assessment workers, working full time 37 hours a week. You will need to be flexible and willing to work on a rota basis from the hours of 7.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday. This is based at St Andrews Contact Service however, you may be required to work across the city to attend meetings in relation to families, visit families in their homes and also travel out of the County.

**What you’ll be doing**

Supervise, monitor, assess and evaluate contacts between children, parents, and other family members which form part of wider assessment processes for example Social Workers and the courts. This means building positive relationships with children and their families by providing them with support, training and advice on parenting skills within agreed programmes of work including parent’s groups and work with them on a one to one basis.

Working closely with colleagues within the Contact Centre, Social Workers, and other professionals, you'll ensure that the Council’s statutory child protection and safeguarding duties are fulfilled.

The contact service is a fast changing environment and you will be expected to switch and change from one task to another, depending on the circumstances at the time, there will be changes in your daily duties, which can happen on a regular bases and being able to adapt is a crucial element of the role. You will also share tasks of chairing team meetings, peer groups and reading out your reports within review settings. This will enable you to show and develop your confidence and manage group settlings when needed.

With your excellent IT skills, you will maintain accurate written records of contact sessions, parenting assessments, as well as produce reports on a regular basis.

**What you’ll need**

Previous work experience working with children under the age of 8 years of age and experience of working children and families from a variety of backgrounds. You’ll need knowledge in child development and how parenting impacts on child development as well as hold an NNEB certificate, NVQ Level 3 or BTEC Diploma in caring studies or equivalent.

You'll need excellent communicational skills in both formal and informal settings to effectively facilitate contacts between children and their families professionally at all levels. You will be able to defuse situations, challenge undesired behaviour and safeguard at all times. Due to the complexities of our parents, you will need the capability to pick up on nonverbal communication as well as verbal communication and have the confidence to challenge when needed and knowing when that’s safe to do so.

With your ability and knowledge around a PC including IT systems, you will find it easy navigating your way around the different programmes and forms that need to be used during your working day, this will also help you to be able to put together forms and processes that are needed when completing court reports for the families.

You will need a full clean driving licence, youre own car and the right business insurance that includes carrying passengers and young people including children to be able to transport children to contacts and different venues. This enables the young person to build that familiarisation with yourself and prevents them from being in contact with lots of different individuals.

**What we can offer you
As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You’
