The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of all the NHS antenatal and new-born screening programmes within the Trust consistent with the UK national screening Committee recommendations (UK NSC) and National programme standards.

The postholder will provide clinical expertise, professional direction and leadership to midwives and Maternity support workers.

The post holder will action, implement and monitor the quality assurance of all the Screening Programmes ensuring that appropriate failsafe systems are in place, confirming that all population screening is undertaken to the highest standard.

They will provide regular formal updates on the performance of the screening Programmes to the screening commissioners at NHS England and the REGIONAL Quality Assurance team.

The Antenatal and new-born Screening Co-ordinator will have highly developed specialist knowledge and experience in the field of antenatal and new-born screening, and skills to impart knowledge and to lead a team effectively at local level.

The post holder will provide expertise and expert knowledge in all aspects of antenatal and new-born screening ensuring safe, effective and evidence based clinical practice in accordance with National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE ) guidance & WUTH guidelines and policies.

The post holder will actively participate in the education, training and dissemination of professional and clinical knowledge to colleagues, student midwives and other members of the multi-disciplinary team acting as an effective role model.

This to ensure all staff are both competent and confident in the delivery and management of existing and new screening programmes.

The development, implementation and audit of clinical guidelines, protocols and policies are key components of the role in order to ensure evidence based clinical practice and safe, high quality care.

Performance management and quality assurance of the screening programme is a key component of the role.

The post holder will
- Act as a specialist in the field of antenatal and newborn screening. Provide effective leadership for all midwifery staff within clinical areas, maintaining clinical/professional competence and credibility. Utilise clinical sessions to role model standards of care and expected behaviour, to measure agreed standards of midwifery practice, and gain additional accessibility to patients, families and members of staff.
- Actively work to support and empower all idwifery staff to develop and utilise clinical leadership skills, ensuring they are invested in appropriate levels of authority to undertake their role effectively in an accountable manner.
- Ensure effective communication-written/verbal and with use of IT systems.
- Make clinical decisions working within the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards and Code of Professional Conduct, exploring the expansion of the role of the Midwife.
- Effect change in clinical practice through the emerging evidence base.
- Support the Senior Midwifery Team in delivering organisational objectives.
- Support the developing role of the midwife by contributing to change process through leadership, research, aydit, education and training and clinical practice.
- Ensure care of women is delivered to a quality standard through evidence
- based practice, which is auditable.
- Contribute to the implementation of the Trust Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery.
- Promote and support partnership working with other professional agencies, clinical services and users of the service.
- Support the professional development of the clinical Midwifery team in liaison with the Practice Development Midwife.
- To support midwifery management by providing leadership in the implementation of Trust guidelines and policies
- Build good working relationships members of the multidisciplinary team.
