We are looking for a teacher and senior leader to manage our provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities at Millbank Academy, including within our Additionally Resourced Provision for children with autism as it expands into its new home.
Though this role is for a maternity cover, the school’s place within a Trust - including several within walking distance of Milbank - makes opportunities for long-term appointment and development very possible.
Millbank Academy is an OFSTED Outstanding school with an above-average percentage of children with EHCPs on its roll. In addition to this, it is the home of the Windmill, an Additionally Resourced Provision for pupils with a diagnosis of Autism.
If successful, you will be joining at an exciting time for the school in terms of its SEND provision. During the next academic year, the Windmill provision will increase from 10 places to 20, with the opening of brand new, purpose-built classrooms and facilities on-site.
You would work as the SENDCO while also providing direct leadership for the teachers and TAs in the Windmill, working alongside a Windmill Lead Teacher. You would get support from the Trust’s Director of SEND, as well as from the team of primary SENDCOs working within the Trust, and from Millbank’s Head of School.

Job purpose: To provide strategic direction and leadership of Inclusion. To raise levels of achievement for pupils with SEND. To ensure that pupils with SEND are suitably provided for in mainstream lessons, as well as through the specialist provision delivered within the Windmill. To provide direct line/performance management for Teaching Assistants and external agency staff.
Responsible for: Ensuring pupils with SEND, both within the mainstream school and the Windmill, make outstanding progress underpinned by quality-first teaching; ensuring the support delivered by Teaching Assistants and agency staff aides this progress.
