**An Environmental Health Practitioner is required to effectively promote and, where appropriate, enforce community safety and street scene across the district.**
**Your primary responsibility is to prevent or identify anti-social behaviour problems early and deal with them swiftly. This will protect community life, maintain peoples’ sense of safety and wellbeing.** Key responsibilities:

- Undertake initiatives to reduce criminal and anti-social behaviour without the need for enforcement action such as by supporting third party organisations who are seeking to secure local social or economic change to tackle the root causes of anti-social behaviour.
- Carry out initiatives to promote the organisation and the service.
- Support staff training and peer reviews.
- Act or speak on behalf of the service on:

- Project teams.
- Specialist sub-groups.
- Multi-agency task teams.
- Supervise contractors who are engaged by the service.
- Collaborate with other agencies and organisations and, with colleagues across this organisation and others to carry out joined up consistent enforcement interventions and to develop and improve joint projects and ways of working.
- Develop reassurance and support schemes for victims of crime and anti-social behaviour.
- Assist third parties in raising funds and other resources to implement local action plans.
- Support the service in meeting its on-call/emergency responsibilities by providing advice by telephone and on-call cover outside of your normal working hours.

- You will be educated to at least first-degree level in a related discipline i.e., crime, environmental health, housing, probation, or youth justice or equivalent in experience.
- You will hold graduate or full membership of an appropriate institution (Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, Chartered Institute of Housing).

Experience/Knowledge:

- Good experience of the effective delivery of services to control ASB and environmental crime within the public sector.
- Experience of effectively representing the service or organisation in formal settings such as court, committee, or public local inquiry.
- Knowledge of the core competencies for regulators, as set out in the BIS’ Better Regulation Delivery Office RDNA.
- Commitment to, and understanding of, issues of quality of service, customer focus and equality of access to services.
- Sufficient technical and legal knowledge across the functions of community safety and street scene to regulate effectively.

Skills/Technical skills:

- Able to plan your own work effectively to meet our organisational requirements.
- Able to promote compliance and exercising professional judgement, as appropriate.
- Able to provide advice and influence.
- Able to interview people formally or informally.
- Ability to enforce relevant legislation, including the accurate drafting and service of Notices.
- Working effectively with businesses and establishing positive relationships.
- Able to build partnerships working with other stakeholders.
- Strong IT, literacy, and numeracy skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritise and organise workload and meet deadlines.
- Proven ability and confidence in dealing with difficult, sensitive or confrontational situations.
- Ability to match response to the circumstances presenting themselves.
