A specialist group of Civil Engineering and Construction solutions, with offices based in the Sheffield area, has a new, permanent opportunity for a Senior Buyer to join a medium sized team. As Senior Buyer, responsibility will be to ensure that all UK sites are optimally supplied with purchased goods and services that align with quality, costs, and delivery performance targets. Overseeing all purchasing of construction products, raw and finished goods, and steel. Ensuring that the Group has a clear strategy when purchasing goods and services, that this is in line with Company standards and applied consistently across the UK.

Main Responsibilies:

- Ensure all sites are supplied with all external procurement contents relevant for the site with respect to purchasing issues
- Set clear KPIs and targets; coach and develop the UK Team so that they feel empowered and enable to achieve these goals
- Initiate and advance economising projects within purchasing
- Provide support for the selection, approval (potential analysis), and development of new suppliers for the plant
- Ensure and further develop processes and systems within Group purchasing
- Assist with budget and forecast planning for all procurement volumes
- Carry out price and condition negotiations for all suppliers assigned within the context of the Supplier Management System
- Collaborate with and professionally represent purchasing for the tasks assigned to the Group in Purchasing Production Material projects
- Conclude target agreements for suppliers (with respect to costs, quality, and delivery reliability)
- Carry out and verify purchasing reporting
- Support the assignment of purchasing-related authorisations
- Carry out regular supplier evaluation, including communicating and calling for countermeasures
- Prepare, participate in, and follow up on audits
- Pass on complaint costs to the suppliers
- Assign system authorisations relevant for the site
- Negotiate and sign agreements, and approve order documents according to the existing approval level

Knowledge/Skills and prerequisites:

- Educated to Degree level or equivalent; CIPS, Purchasing & Procurement, Business Studies, Economics, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent experience with Chartered status or working towards Chartered status
- Chartered Level - Institute of Supply Chain Management (IoSCM), Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS)
- Approximately 5-10 years’ experience is needed to perform the job at a management level
- Solid background in Supply Chain/Purchasing & Procurement/Construction/Chemicals Engineering/Manufacturing Operations, including people management
- Ability to display exceptional leadership skills with a gravitas to influence all levels of the business; ability to display sound judgement and business acumen
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings
- Knowledge of specialist sub-contract trades
- Proven experience of Purchasing/Buying, and can demonstrate excellent negotiation skills
- Proven experience of understanding industry-specific products and users; completing complex data analysis to identify trends in the market
- Proven experience of working with multiple discipline projects; working within a challenging engineering/manufacturing environment
- Experience of working in a multi-site environment
- Background within medium/high volume manufacturing/engineering/construction environment
- Highly experienced in working under own initiative, demonstrating an ability to set & meet personal targets, combined with the flexibility to adjust to workload priorities to take account of new deadlines
- Interpersonal and communication skills, presentation skills, and a commitment to customer service; build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, clients, and sub-contractors
- Awareness of wider Company issues and relevant legislation. Required to keep informed of changes in legislation and departmental policy to deliver correct advice
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload, maintain confidentiality, and produce/process documents accurately
- Excellent written and numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- IT knowledge, including Microsoft 365 Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. ERP and/or MRP systems, CRM, and industry-specific software
- A flexible, forward-thinking approach to work, along with the ability to work as part of a team
- Full UK Driver’s Licence and valid Passport
