A fantastic opportunity has recently arisen within the Bristol Urological Institute based on Weston General Hospital as we are advertising for a Cancer Navigator for 37.5 hours a week to join our busy Urology department.

The role will be to support and facilitate the smooth and timely running of cancer patient's journeys. The post holder will organise and liaise with the clinical teams and Cancer Services to manage the planned checkpoints throughout a patient’s diagnostic pathway and support the clinical team, in ensuring the speciality is able to deliver timely, safe and effective services.

- Provide a point of contact for cancer services team for all urological cancer patients.
- Develop excellent working relationships with departments which deliver diagnostic services in order to co-ordinate the patient’s diagnostic journey.
- Liaise with the medical secretary and cancer nurse specialist teams to support patients through their pathway, ensuring timed milestones are achieved and communicated to patients appropriately
- Develop strong links with fast track team and local primary care and community teams.
- Support information delivery about varied tests and procedures; this role may include providing preparation information for investigations and procedures such as CT scans, MRI safety questionnaires, cystoscopy and biopsies in order to expedite appointments and progress the patient pathway
- To provide general updates about appointments and next steps to patients on cancer pathways
- To be responsible for checking the outcomes of patients attending clinic on Two Week Wait appointments and help facilitate booking of any required tests within deemed timescales
- Develop an in depth knowledge and understanding of the patient pathway for urological cancer and diagnostic pathways
- To proactively manage and track the patient through every stage of the patient pathway on a daily basis, to ensure that diagnostic tests and pathway milestones are achieved within the targets

Meeting and maintaining the national waiting list targets within resources available.
Pressurised environment with tight deadlines and changing priorities.
Unpredictable and frequent interruptions.
Dealing with difficult and complex situations
Working on own initiative for the majority of the time.
