Minerals and Waste Management are a specialist team based across Leeds and London. The team collaborates closely with colleagues in our industrial team and network of regional offices.

The team are leading advisors in the Minerals and Waste sector representing the major UK operators and SME’s. The team is passionate about providing exceptional client care which has led to long established relationships with our clients. The individual will be sat with another apprentice, a Senior Surveyor, and a Partner. They will be supported to get involved with a variety of work and property types to provide them with broad experience and training. The team have a vast experience with apprenticeships and therefore will provide extensive training and support in order to become RICS qualified.

Apprenticeship:
You will be on a 5-day week contract, but one of these days will be dedicated to your studies and the other 4 will be in the office. Rather than attending formal lectures or classes, you will study using UCEM’s state of-the-art online learning environment and digital library, supported with guidance from highly experienced tutors. Upon completion of the BSc (Hons) Real Estate Management and the structured workplace learning you will undertake the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence leading to registration with the RICS as a Chartered Surveyor under the Minerals and Waste pathway.

We support our Apprentices in gaining the relevant competencies required for their Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) as part of the end point assessment to becoming RICS qualified. Apprentices can only commence recording their APC from the beginning of year 3. If you are passionate about developing a professional career in property, and earning while you learn, this fantastic role is for you. Upon successful completion of the programme, you will become a Chartered Surveyor and a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

The Role:
The role covers a wide geographical spread, predominantly in the southern half of the country, so you will inspect properties in London, the southeast and from Cornwall to Birmingham, South Wales to Suffolk. You will deal with a range of interesting property types both big and small. This will include bare industrial land, specialist buildings plant and machinery, farmland, quarries, mines, landfill sites, wharves, railheads, energy from waste plants, recycling centres and other waste management facilities.

You Will Gain Experience In:

- Assisting with property inspections and preparing inspection notes
- Arranging and coordinating site inspections
- Researching comparable evidence
- Drafting valuations
- Preparing rating submissions and Appeals
- Assisting in the preparation of evidence for tribunal hearings and third-party referrals
- Preparing client reports
- Working with cross departmental teams servicing national portfolios
- Use good organisational skills to manage and prioritise a busy and developing caseload
- Completing and delivering academic work in a timely basis meeting program requirements
- Develop and maintain a strong network of internal and external contacts and to use these contacts in order to further develop business for the team.

About You:

- A genuine interest in surveying, the environment, and specialist minerals, waste and industrial sector properties.
- IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel competencies.
- Well organised, efficient, using initiative and working to tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, coupled with an eye for detail.
- Flexible and self-motivated with a real desire to deliver excellent customer service.
- Positive attitude and willing to learn with and develop within the team.
- A full driving licence (preferable) and willing to work nationally and occasionally work away from home.
