**Post: Museum Attendant - Museum of Cannock Chase**

**Responsible To**:Visitor Services Officer - Visitor & Site Operations

**Grade / Salary**:£18,328 per annum/pro rata

The postholder will work a minimum of 50 hours a year, mostly at weekends but also occasional weekdays and evenings, on an ad hoc basis to meet the opening hours of the museum. Hours will be allocated on a monthly basis.

**Museum Attendant - Museum of Cannock Chase**

**Accountable For**:
The postholder will work on museum reception, information point, museum shop and coffee shop during public opening and represent the museum at special events.

They will ensure that all visitors are provided with a courteous welcome and the assistance they require, whilst ensuring the integrity and security of the museum collections and facilities during opening times.

The postholder will be based at the Museum of Cannock Chase as part of the Visitor Services Team, working under the general direction of the Visitor Services Officers and directly working under the supervision of the Visitor Services Assistants.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Opening the museum to visitors during advertised hours, in line with the approved procedures.
- Providing visitors with a courteous and warm reception, and information on the museum and its facilities, and offering the highest level of customer care at all times.
- Ensuring the readiness of the museum shop, coffee shop and facilities.
- Serving visitors in the museum shops.
- Dealing with receipt of monies, cash handling and the issue of receipts, for shops, exhibition sales and event/activity bookings and accurately cashing up the museum tills at the end of the working day.
- Recording and monitoring visitor/user figures.
- Maintaining the security and integrity of the museum collections and facilities through ongoing vigilance and regular checks.
- Assisting with museum special events and activities, at the museum and sometimes at other venues, including the wearing of costumes for themed activities.
- Ensuring the readiness of facilities for museum bookings, activities and event, including setting up equipment, and lifting and carrying equipment, signage and furniture.
- Ensuring that the public areas are clean and tidy at all times and supporting the museum cleaner by carrying out any supplementary and interim cleaning as required.

The above responsibilities of the job are intended as a basic outline. There will be other tasks relating to ensuring visitor quality, satisfaction, care and safety and the Museum Attendants will be expected to adopt a flexible and helpful approach.

The post holder is also required to undertake any other duties as and when required by management that are commensurate with the grade and job title of the post.
