**What's involved with this role**:
**Temporary Mechanic - Driving**

**Pay rate £12.93 per hour PAYE**
**This opening assignment is for 6 months** To provide a vehicle maintenance and repair service for the Council owned vehicle fleet (approximately 45 - 50 vehicles). To maintain all vehicles to a level suitable to comply with current legislation and to maintain those vehicles at that level, either in the workshop of on site. To service all vehicles within the fleet Key responsibilities:

- To service specialist large goods fleet in line with the Vehicle Operating Standards Agency (VOSA) legislation. To maintain standard set out above between service intervals.
- To attend to vehicle breakdowns, to diagnose fault and to repair as necessary. To identify parts required to research competitive price and to order parts required.
- To prepare all vehicles ready to undergo MOT (Ministry of Transport) inspection, this can include fitting new parts, welding, steam cleaning, fault repair, minor bodywork repairs.
- To record repairs and maintenance to all vehicles on an official form (provided by outside body) and to maintain accurate records to each vehicle for the life of that vehicle.
- To keep clean, at all times, the vehicle workshop area complying with Health and Safety legislation. To restrict access to unauthorised parties. To ensure workshop is left secure whilst away from the depot.
- To comply with relevant Health and Safety legislation, policies and procedures.
- To maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate

- Qualified to Motor Vehicle Level 2, ie City & Guilds
- Completion of 35 hours Drivers CPC Training
- An understanding of Health and Safety issues including Manual Handling
- An understanding of HGV vehicles servicing/MOT preparation
- An understanding of driver’s hours and defect reporting/recording
- Ability to operate within set guidelines
- Have a good level of fitness to meet the requirements of the job
