**Job Description**:

- The Precision Machining Test Department plays a crucial role in supporting Element Six’s innovation group in the research and development laboratory, A team of skilled operators, technicians and scientists produce and evaluate new diamond super-hard materials for the global market.
- A good attention to detail and curious mind will benefit this role.
- As Precision Test Operator, you will ensure a safe working environment for those around you to develop effective, safe test methods and work practices.
- You will be involved in carrying out routine machining processes using standard operating procedures.
- As a key contact for Application Engineers, you will assist with their projects by providing both hands-on assistance and technical advice
- You, along with the wider Precision Test team, will be responsible for ensuring the Precision Test lab is kept in a clean and safe condition reporting issues to relevant parties in a timely manner.

**Duties and tasks**
- Perform Application tests according to pre-defined procedures.
- Perform metal machining tests on pre-programmed CNC lathes according to the procedures required.
- Induction Brazing tools to holders.
- Running CNC Controlled Machining Centres such as lathe’s, mills and grinders and other equipment for testing using written procedures in a repeatable and robust manner.
- Inspect wear scars and tool damage using an optical microscope. Document results.
- Adhere to safe work procedures and actively work to minimize risks in the day-to-day work
- Do routine cleaning and operator maintenance on the machines
- Use inspection equipment such as vernier gauges, micrometres and surface finish instrumentation
- Interpret engineering drawings to ensure that tools meet agreed specifications
- Manage own workload to agreed priorities
- Work with the engineers and technicians to continually improve the process

**Qualifications**:

- Apprenticeship or good experience in mechanical/production engineering or similar.
- Experience with CNC machining operations desirable.
- Experience with machining operations in a high-tech engineering environment.
- Experience working on hard brittle materials desirable.
- Experience using inspection and measurement equipment (vernier’s/mic’s) and using optical microscopes.
- Experience in brazing, wire cutting and laser cutting is a plus
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Good understanding of health and safety standards as well as quality procedures.
- A diligent worker with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficiency in MS Office software and relevant software for data acquisition and analysis.
