Job description

The Berkshire Coroner’s Service is looking to recruit a secretary to provide comprehensive and proactive assistance to the Senior Coroner and Assistant Coroners across a range of tasks.

The Coroners Service investigates sudden, violent and unnatural deaths across Berkshire. Hosted by Reading Borough Council, the service has its central offices based in Reading Town Hall which includes a dedicated facility for audio/video inquest hearings.

**About the role**

We are looking for applicants with experience of working in a busy office environment and using multiple IT packages to join our team to provide secretarial support to the Senior Coroner.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the provision of confidential support to the Senior Coroner. This will include effectively managing her diary as well as dealing with enquiries and correspondence in person, in writing and on the telephone to a wide range of stakeholders.

**About you**

The following experience is required for this role:

- Office based administration experience, working in a complex and fast paced, changing environment
- Experience of using Microsoft products with significant amounts of word processing and audio typing experience in order to produce well-presented work; efficiently, quickly and to a high standard
- Experience using databases
- Experience of working under pressure and meeting ever changing tasks, priorities and deadlines
- Experience of appropriate decision making on own behalf and on behalf of others at a senior level
- Experience of working as part of a team and on own initiative with mínimal supervision and meeting expected delivery schedules
