Sheffield, United Kingdom Sheffield City Council Full time

Job description

We have a fantastic opportunity to recruit 2 people in Local Area Committees, within the Neighbourhoods Portfolio. 1 post is permenant and 1 post is temporary for a year term.

**What are Local Area Committees (LACs)?**

There are 7 Local Area Committees across the city. The committee consists of the 12 elected members for the 4 electoral wards within the area, this includes a Chair and Deputy Chair. Each committee is supported by a small team of officers. Local Area Committees (LACs) are a way for people to make a difference in their area and communities. The LACs are an opportunity for people to get involved, say what is great about their area, what improvements they would like to see and what matters to them and their community. Giving people a chance to influence decision making, share their opinion and contribute to positive changes in their community. LACs work together with partners and stakeholders to link services and operate effectively in line with the needs of the community to deliver the priorities.

**The role?**

Working in a small fast paced team your role is to work with communities to co-ordinate and help deliver local activities and projects. Your role is to ensure ward priorities and the local community plan are identified and addressed, to help meet local communities needs and aspirations. Your role is to develop and enhance local engagement opportunities for Sheffielders and their communities, helping them to be empowered and ensuring they are well informed, can raise local issues and influence service delivery in their local area. Looking for solutions, action and community interventions working in collaboration. You will support local councillors in their community leadership role helping them to engage with their local communities and partners. Communicate and promote LACs and the work in communities through various channels and sources. Your role is to monitor and organise funding streams, communicate and promote the LAC through various channels, use local data and create various reports,

**Who we are looking for?**

We are looking for people who are committed and passionate about the community and delivering the best to Sheffielders. Who have a positive attitude and an understanding of our diverse communities. You will have excellent communication and are a people person with the ability to build relationships and be able to work with others in partnership to gain the best solutions and outcomes. Can use your skills and abilities to successfully deliver projects and initiatives. If you are passionate about making a difference to people’s lives and communities, this would be the role for you. You will also have all the relevant skills, abilities and experience as described in the person specification.

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.

Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
