To provide a comprehensive, high quality service to patients, staff and members of the public on behalf of the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust. To operate a telephone switchboard and associated communication systems as necessary. To observe and respond to monitors/alarms within an agreed scope of responsibility and carry out stringent procedures in the event of an emergency situation and to provide a courteous and professional reception service.
- To operate a 24 hour busy Switchboard
- To operate, and assist with Bleeps and Mobile Phones
- To put into operation the Trust procedures for emergencies namely: - Cardiac Arrest
Fire Alerts
Major Disaster
Security /Police responds
- and other emergencies that may arise via the 2222 or 0 level.
- Switchboard crash - to liaise with IT department.
- To ensure that all patients and visitors receive assistance with general advice in response to queries, information and direction
- To provide a back-up service for the main switchboard from the monitor stationed on the reception desk
- To ensure that all important messages/information is communicated to the person(s) or area concerned as soon as received
- To observe Alarm Panels and respond to Alarm Panels. These include: -Medical Gases
- Fire
- Path Lab
- Pinpoint Alarm
- Job role involves shift work which may include night shifts once competent
- To be familiar with Trust and Departmental policies and procedures
- Provide a radio communication service for the security / porters
- Ensure that confidentiality is maintained and adhere to all Trust policies and procedures
- Deal with Locums issuing swipe cards and IT passwords, and bleeps
- To participate in all mandatory training courses as directed by the Trust
- To be aware of the Trust Health and Safety Policies and Procedures

- To be responsible for the operation of a computerised telephone switchboard in all its aspects (i.e. handling incoming and outgoing calls and the withdrawal of information as and when required)
- To operate, and assist with the procedure of maintenance of Internal Bleeps and Mobile Phones
- To put into operation the Trust procedures for emergencies namely: - Cardiac Arrest

Major Disaster
Security /Police response

and other emergencies that may arise via the 2222 or 0 level
- Switchboard crash - to operate the backup procedure and liaise with IT department.
- To ensure that all patients and visitors receive assistance with direction to their destination
- To ensure that all patients and visitors receive assistance with general advice in response to queries, information and direction
- To provide a back-up service for the main switchboard from the monitor stationed on the reception desk
- To maintain daily information re all medical staffs and staffs allied to medicine on the: - on-call bulletin board, message board
- To ensure that all important messages/information is communicated to the person(s) or area concerned as soon as received
- Maintain records of accommodation for Locums
- Monitors and Alarm Panels
- To observe Alarm Panels and respond to Alarm Panels. These include: - Medical Gases

Pinpoint Alarm
- Job role involves shift work which may include night shifts once competent
- To be familiar with Trust and Departmental policies and procedures
- Provide a radio communication service for the security dept in case of pinpoint alarms, and monitor alarms and relay to porters or departments within the hospital
- Ensure that confidentiality is maintained and adhere to all Trust policies and procedures
- Deal with on ad-hoc basis Locums issuing swipe cards and IT passwords, and bleeps.
- Attend departmental meetings as and when required to do so
- To participate in all mandatory training courses as directed by the Trust
- To be aware of the Trust Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and ensure that these are adhered to
- Dealing with found/lost property handed in at the reception.
