The position

The Head of HSQE (Health, Safety, Quality and Environment) is responsible for providing professional HSQE advice and support systems to all activities in UK and I.

The postholder will ensure that the HSQE performance of RES is market leading and reflects good industry practice, complies with relevant legislation, guidance and company policies and that RES has a HSQE management system that delivers continuous improvement and a commercial advantage.

Organisational Context

Provide consistent, relevant and focused HSQE support to senior managers in UK&I and through the wider team to employees.

Influence business objectives, decisions and performance across RES to ensure that they are balanced in terms of health, safety, quality and environmental impact, as well as cost and programme.

Proactively collaborate with other senior HSQE roles across the Group and contribute to the definition and achievement of HSQE objectives for RES Group.

Key Accountabilities

Undertaking an assessment of significant HSQE risks across the portfolio with a focus on employees, suppliers of services and sub-contractors. This should also encapsulate environmental aspects and impacts.

Review existing risk control measures including hardware, technologies, systems and human behaviour - draft a strategic plan to address any gaps or weaknesses

Define and agree with the respective business leaders, the objectives that relate to HSQE

Develop, maintain and improve balanced scorecard for reporting to the Executive, the Safety Leadership Team and Group where appropriate.

Develop, maintain and improve a structured Quality Control approach commensurate with the organisational maturity

Develop and implement a programme of annual audits and inspections based on risks and emerging topics.

Support due diligence and integration of acquisition targets

Develop an integrated approach to liaison with regulatory bodies in each of the primary countries (UK and Ireland)

Establish and implement tailored systems for incident reporting, analysis and investigation (see Group Standard)

Set-up and lead a customer HSQE forum to provide enhanced communication and collaboration on risks across contractual boundaries

Maintain access to an effective single database of HSQE legislation, regulations and standards relevant for all areas of RES business activities.

Ensure the effective communication of safety alerts within RES and between RES and external stakeholders.

Set a personal example for safety leadership and be an exemplar of safety behaviours

The Head of HSQE will be responsible for the line management of a team of HSQE Advisors

Knowledge

**Skills**:
Good understanding of project development, construction and operation process for renewable energy projects

Expert knowledge of general HSQE management, legislation, regulations and standards - up to date with relevant HSQE information and future trends.

Knowledge (and experience of successful implementation) of ISO9001, ISO14001, OHSAS18001, ISO45001 and other relevant standards and the related certification process.

Knowledge of lean principles and techniques would be advantageous

Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organisation and externally with clients, suppliers, trade bodies, media etc.

Able to summarise HSQE risks, with commercial context, to support decisions required for project delivery

Project management skills

Presentation of information in accurate and clear manner with relevant detail
