Air Traffic Control Officer

This is an exciting opportunity for an Air Traffic Control Officer to join our skilled ATC team at Birmingham Airport.  If you have experience of preventing collisions between aircraft, expediting and maintain an orderly flow of air traffic or similar relevant experience, then this is the opportunity for you.

If you take pride in delivering a high-quality service, while also ensuring safety, then come join our team of dedicated Technicians who make a difference on a daily basis to the quality of travel of the passengers at the airport. You will be providing advice and information useful for the safe and efficient conduct of flights.

No two days will be the same, you may be initiating aerodrome inspections or carrying out MET Observations when required. You will be expected to display a considerable amount of judgement and organisation.

Main Duties and Safety Responsibilities
- Prevent collisions between aircraft;
- Prevent collisions between aircraft on the manoeuvring area and obstructions on that area;
- Expedite and maintain an orderly flow of air traffic;
- Provide advice and information useful for the safe and efficient conduct of flights;
- Notify appropriate organisations regarding aircraft in need of search and rescue aid, and assist such organisations as required.
- Control of vehicles on the manoeuvring area.
- Operate the VCCS communication system.
- Operate the airfield lighting system.
- Carry out Met Observations when required.
- Initiate aerodrome inspections when required.
- Initiate bird scaring operations when required.
- Maintain a detailed ATC Watch Log (CA1155).
- Monitor the accuracy and serviceability of the ATC ground equipment and aids; advise the appropriate departments of unserviceability.
- Advise aircraft of the status and serviceability of all airfield equipment and aids.
- Alert the safety and emergency services when necessary, co-ordinate subsequent operations.
- Liaise with aircraft operators and Airport sections on operational matters.
- Initiate and receive data and information by telephone and fax.
- Provide on the job training (if qualified) to newly appointed ATCOs in accordance with the BAATL Unit Training Plan.
- Additionally, if radar qualified:

- Provide radar and non-radar approach services in accordance with MATS Part 1 and 2.
- Operate the radar display console.
- Provide FIS services during the notified hours of operation.
- Provide weather information and essential information pertinent to the safe conduct of flight to pilots.
- Co-ordinate with neighbouring ATC Approach/Radar units.
- Co-ordinate with airspace users according to the terms of any Letters of Agreement (LoAs).
- Undertake tasks associated with the ANSP Safety, Quality and Security Management systems as directed in order to comply with regulatory requirements.
