At University Hospital Sussex, we are looking for 1 high calibre individual who can combine people management skills, analytical capabilities, and pragmatic management approaches to join our spinal service. We are looking to recruit 1 Band 7 spinal practitioners for 37.5 hours per week cover maternity leave, to join our multi-professional team to support complex spinal surgery in line with GIRFT recommendations. This could be an exciting role of nurses or physiotherapists.

We are looking for people who have a drive to exceed expectations, a willingness to take ownership of decisions and support your team, the spinal practitioners role is key to the provision of a high quality, accessible and timely clinical service to patients with complex spinal conditions.

This post will support the emergency admission pathway and as part of the elective procedure process, from pre-assessment and post procedural care, ensuring all standards are met, promoting a patient centered and evidence based care pathway.

Clinical
1. Responsible and accountable for the coordination and delivery of patient care and to influence practice within the MDT.
2. Work on own initiative to coordinate the care of spinal patients, and support safe
3. The post holder will practice autonomously and support and empower all healthcare workers and patients through the provision of education, expert advice and clinical
4. Be highly skilled and competent in the comprehensive assessment of patients using theoretical knowledge and a wide range of experience to assess needs and administer care to support
5. Devise individual patient-led treatment plans using clinical reasoning, current evidence and a wide range of treatment
6. Facilitate Nurse/MDT-Led discharge for specific consultant based patient groups in line with locally agreed
7. Active role and facilitate spinal oncology and spinal MDT’s liaise with other specialties involved in care of patients referred or under the care of spinal
8. Co-ordinate interventions which may include other disciplines through case management, multidisciplinary team meetings, integrated teams within the hospital and in the community.
9. Ensure all documentation is complete and accurate and that all information is stored and maintained appropriately by keeping databases and records
10. Ensure the use of a clinical governance framework and resources to guide practice, participating in supervision and reflection on clinical
