- Job description- Do you want to help London and the Thames Estuary adapt to climate change? At the Environment Agency, we do more than build flood risk management schemes. We strive to ensure that everything we do leaves a legacy to be proud of.
You’ll be using the latest climate science and innovative approaches to flood risk management to provide solutions at the forefront of a climate adaptation plan as part of the largest flood risk strategy in the country.
We are looking for a senior advisor to provide technical leadership and deliver a range of innovative projects and studies. The role would suit someone with experience in climate adaptation and major project delivery, and who can work with complexity and uncertainty.
Key duties involve improving our evidence and systems to ensure we can deliver the major defence raising required across the Thames Estuary to manage the impacts of sea level rise. This will be achieved by working with delivery partners and a range of Environment Agency teams and partner organisations. You will be adept at creating and maintaining networks to support this work.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role
- The team- As part of Flood and Coastal Risk Management in the London Area, we play an essential role creating a thriving and climate resilient Thames Estuary. We seek and act on opportunities to engage with others, fostering relationships with key London organisations and our Area and National teams.
You will be part of our growing dedicated Thames Estuary team, made up of dynamic and passionate experts in climate adaptation, planning, flood risk, engineering and programme management
- Experience/skills required
- Translating organisational strategy and contemporary science into approaches for operational delivery
- Working productively with internal and external stakeholders to help deliver the outcomes of both a specific project and the wider organisation.
- Delivering work within a programme and project management framework to time, cost and quality
- Embracing and adapting to new ways of working to improve efficiency & productivity, having contributed positively in any preceding discussion
- Identifying, communicating, and helping to fill knowledge gaps in the business
- Using effective written and spoken communication skills to articulate complex scientific matters to influence and persuade
- Analysing/interpreting evidence to contribute effective solutions for technical problems.
- Developing strategies to deliver complex and open-ended activities as part of a wider team and work programme
