We’re looking for a brilliant, dynamic and engaging individual to join us as the Head of the Leader’s Office to support our ambitious Leader of the Council. This post plays a key role in helping the Leader of the Council to make sure we meet our priorities and provide the best possible services and opportunities for our residents.

We are looking for an experienced senior manager who can provide excellent strategic support to the Leader, ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of their vision for the local authority. This exciting role will see you manage a high performing executive support function for the Leader and act as a key source of advice and support. Working closely with the leadership of the Council, you will help drive the Council’s strategic priorities.

**The role**

The Head of Leader’s Office and Mayoralty post is the pivot between officers and Members, heading up a team providing support and strategic advice to the Leader, Mayor, Cabinet and Members. The post holder will have oversight of the day-to-day support to the Leader, Mayor, Cabinet and Members to ensure they are able to make effective decisions, communicate their work, and able to work in partnership with residents, businesses, stakeholders, and communities. The post will also ensure Member services are delivered.

The post holder will be expected to form effective relationships with colleagues across the organisation, as well as external partners and stakeholders. They will need to have excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of how local government works, experience operating at the most senior level of an organisation, and of working directly with politicians.

**What we’re looking for**

We’re looking for someone who is highly motivated, ambitious and passionate about local government.

You will be able to build effective relationships with the Leader, Elected Members, the Chief Executive, Management Board, and senior managers across the organisation, as well as wider staff and stakeholders.

You will have experience making sound judgements, delegating tasks, and you will be able to confidently influence and advise senior colleagues in a busy and demanding working environment, acting with sensitivity and tact.

You will be organised and take a programmatic approach to managing the Leader’s work portfolio and competing priorities

You will be able to cope under pressure, working at pace and with flexibility, delivering to high standards and strict deadlines.
