Scunthorpe, United Kingdom North Lincolnshire Council Full time

Do you have a passion for museums and can deliver excellent customer service for a diverse range of visitors and customers? Would you like to work as part of a small, highly creative, and motivated team in an award-winning museum?

North Lincolnshire Museum is looking to recruit a friendly Weekend Museum Assistant. Your role will mainly be based at the main entrance or the craft area within the museum. You will usually be the first person to greet visitors as they enter the building, so it is essential that you can give a warm welcome to all and be part of the experience that makes our visitors want to return. If you are in our craft area, you will assist families being creative together.

You will be responsible for providing excellent customer service. You will also assist customers purchasing items in the gift shop. Good numeracy and IT skills are needed to be able to keep accurate stock records, and to take bookings for room hire and workshops.

This post would be ideal for those who have confidence and experience in retail selling and/or reception work and enjoy delivering a high standard of customer service and working with residents of all ages and visitors to the area. The nature of the role means that excellent communication skills are essential so you can give clear information to visitors and customers in person, over the phone and in text communications.

As part of a dynamic team, you will be needed to assist with room set-up and cleaning and ensure that the museum is always well presented, safe and ready for visitors. You will need to be a team-player and have some flexibility in times worked as occasionally you will be needed to staff events outside of normal working hours.

The hours of this post are to work every weekend on Saturday, all day and on Sunday afternoon.
The council provides enhanced rates of pay for weekend working, time and a half on a Saturday and double time on a Sunday.

If this sounds like the ideal role for you and you can demonstrate that you meet all the essential criteria in the job description/person specification, then we would love to hear from you. Please call to speak to Rebecca Gibson for an informal discussion about the role on 01724 297055.
