Boarding Supervisor

**Reporting to**: Head of Pastoral Care and Boarding

**Remuneration**: Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications.

Contributory pension scheme.
Two bedroomed staff flat
Free Meals in term time.

**Start Date**: As soon as possible

**Job Purpose**:
The Boarding supervisor’s role is to look after on a daily basis all the girls in their care; run the boarding house effectively and efficiently; providing a home from home for the girls whilst supporting the Head of Pastoral Care & Boarding at all times. The post holder will always uphold all Kilgraston standards and Care Commission regulatory requirements.

**Main Duties of the Post**:

- Assisting & supporting the Head of Pastoral Care & Boarding with:

- o Providing girls with the best possible experience of a boarding education, providing a ‘home from home’ experience. o Build strong relationships with each of the girls in the house, recognising their individual needs and helping all stakeholders with meeting those needs. o Covering for the Head of Pastoral & Boarding Care when she is off duty. o At all times uphold the values of the school. o Line manages boarding assistants and gap students who are assigned to your boarding house. o Ensuring the girls are achieving their academic potential and recognise when further support may be required. o Delivering regulatory requirements for regulatory bodies.
- Take responsibility for the general welfare and personal development of all the girls in accordance with School policies.
- Organise and supervise the morning, evening, weekday & weekend routines within the boarding area.
- Organise and manage weekday and weekend activities in partnership with the

Head of Boarding.
- To take an active role in weekday and weekend activities.
- To monitor and assist with the academic and pastoral needs of the pupils within the boarding area under the guidance of the Head of Pastoral Care & Boarding
- To ensure that appropriate care is given to boarders, being mindful of overseas students who are a long way from home; responding to the special needs of those from different cultural backgrounds and ensuring that different cultures and backgrounds are recognised, respected and accepted.
- To foster a culture of understanding where each child in the House feels safe, valued and supported.
- To act, always, within the Kilgraston School Safeguarding policy guidelines, ensuring the welfare of the child is paramount.
- To ensure that the principles of Boarding at Kilgraston School are clear to all pupils.
- To embody the aims and values of the school.
- To share mealtimes with the Boarders and other members of staff in the Dining

Room.
- To check that girls are in correct uniform for the school day, but also that girls are appropriately dressed at other times.
- To ensure students are attending school in appropriate school uniform.
- To liaise with Head of Pastoral Care & Boarding concerning the general health and lifestyle of the boarders and link with the school Nurse to ensure that appropriate care is given to girls who are ill including the correct dispensation of the required medication.
- To keep medicines and medical items in-house, fully stocked in line with the

Wellness Centre advice.
- To be prepared to work at any time to care for the boarders in times of emergency.
- Ensure that visitors to the boarding house are welcomed but carefully monitored.
- Deal with disciplinary matters that arise and liaise with Head of Pastoral Care &
Boarding, raising any matter of serious concern in a timely manner.
- Notify all stakeholders if a girl is unwell before registration.

**Routines and Administration**:

- To ensure that the boarding house is kept tidy, including the fridges, ensuring house provisions are maintained and any out-of-date food is discarded.
- On occasion as and when required escort a girl to the dentist, doctor or other appointment that requires support or an adult presence.
- Be responsible for ensuring the laundry systems run smoothly in the House, withing in partnership with the Housekeeping team.
- Ensure that all regular routines are followed in the boarding house (weekend permissions, meals, lights out, fire drills, fire safety etc.) and support the improvement initiatives from Head of Pastoral Care & Boarding.
- Perform wake up and lights out routines in conjunction with the house schedule.
- Plan and co-ordinate weekend activities internally/externally including co-ordinating personnel, risk assessments, billing and photographic evidence, transport requests etc.
- Monitor and assist with the academic and pastoral needs of the pupils within the boarding house including tracking supervised study/prep for all year groups.
- Liaise with Head of Pastoral Care & Boarding on a regular timely basis, whilst also updating the school database (Schoolbase) of any significant concerns as they arise.
- Communicate regularly with parents on matters relating to boarding in a profession
