First impressions are extremely important and the Grounds Person plays a vital role in the presentation of our Trust schools.

We are seeking to appoint a grounds person who will be responsible for maintaining the grounds at several schools within Equa Multi Academy Trust. The jobholder is based at Lavington School and the majority of the time will be spent here.

You will be working under the direction of our Maintenance Manager and will become a valuable part of the premises team.

You should be enthusiastic, energetic and well-motivated and be able to use your own initiative to provide a first-class service to our schools.

With excellent attention to detail, you will be a positive influence and support the ethos of the Trust.
- Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in grounds maintenance.
- Have a good working knowledge of health and safety related to grounds activities, ensuring all works are carried out safely.
- Ensure that all works and projects are carried out within timescales agreed with the Maintenance Manager.
- Hold a full UK driver’s licence with suitable trailer towing category.
- Hold PA1/PA6a Pesticides Certificate (training can be arranged if not currently held)
- Have experience in the use of ride-on and pedestrian grass cutting machine along with other regularly used equipment such as hedge custters, strimmers and blowers.
- Knowledge of machinery repair is a distinct advantage.

**Main Duties/Key Responsibilities**
- To carry out general grounds’ maintenance duties and tasks to maintain the condition and appearance of grounds and playing fields.
- To lay out and mark playing fields
- Maintenance and erection of sports equipment, e.g. cricket nets, rugby posts
- To maintain flowers, shrubs and trees including trimming, mulching and fertilizing
- To clean and paint benches and contribute to general maintenance tasks
- Snow clearing and gritting
- Keep facilities and surrounding areas free from litter, debris and weeds
- Routine maintenance of paving, hard landscape, seating, street furniture, walls and fencing
- Clean and maintain equipment and materials
- Follow applicable safety guidelines and procedures
- To work unsupervised, work alone or as part of a team on designated tasks
- Perform other duties as required.

**Person Specification**

**Essential**
- Experience of general grounds maintenance duties and tasks
- An understanding of the health and safety issues associated with grounds maintenance work
- A clean valid driving licence (preferably including Class D1)
- An industrious and reliable approach to work
- Ability to work alone or as part of a team
- Able to work in a clean, tidy and professional manner
- Ability to work unsupervised on grounds maintenance tasks

**Desirable**
- Spraying PA1 PA6 qualification
- Experience of general grounds maintenance for sports fields and facilties
- A basic first aid qualification
- Experience of working in an educational environment
