**Postdoctoral scientists are sought to undertake research into turbulent processes associated with moist convection in the atmosphere. This research will form a major part of a joint NERC / Met Office programme with the aim of significantly improving the representation of turbulence and convection **in kilometre and sub-kilometre scale weather and climate models.** **A** major element of the programme will be the investigation of results from the WesCon field campaign to measure convective turbulence with storms in the southwest of the UK during summer 2023.**

**This role will focus on the convective environment, specifically the inversion and stable layers as well as the influence of cloud spacing on turbulence and convective dynamics [1]**

**Other roles advertised focus on**:

- ** estimating convective-scale motions and turbulence intensity from Doppler radar observations - Postdoctoral Researcher in Radar Remote Sensing of Convection and Turbulence (WOEST) - SRF44759 [2]**:

- ** evaluating convection and turbulence in models at km and sub-km scales, including the sensitivity to microphysics parametrization - Postdoctoral Researcher in Microphysics-Turbulence-Dynamics Interactions in Convective Clouds (CLOUDY TIME PROJECT) - SRF44607 [3]**:

- ** parameterization development at km scales - Postdoctoral Researcher in the Parameterization of Convective Turbulence in the Convection Grey Zone (CoMorph Project) - SRF44609 [4]**:

- ** parameterization development at sub-km scales - Postdoctoral Researcher in the Parameterization of Convective Turbulence in the Turbulence Grey Zone (HiFi Project) - SRF44677 [5]**

**The roles numbered 4 & 5 will be undertaken in concert to yield a unified treatment across scales. All five scientists will be expected to work closely together and with the rest of the programme, generating and sharing common data, common tools, and, most importantly, exchanging ideas and insights.**

**Applicants should have**:

- ** strong skills in the analysis of observational and/or model data and its interpretation**:

- **the ability to formulate, develop or analyse conceptual and mathematical models, and to implement and critically assess these**:

- ** good communication skills and the disposition to collaborate effectively with both internal and external project members**:

- ** additional requirements specific to the individual roles, as detailed on the job description for each**
