Informatics Technical Officer

We have an exciting new opportunity for an Informatics Technical Officer to join Wellcome Connecting Science as part of our Learning and Training team, on a 12 month fixed-term basis.
**About the role**:
Working closely with the Informatics Manager you will support the development and delivery of our programme of training courses.
We deliver around 25 in-person and virtual training events each year, the majority of which have a defined informatics or computational component, and you will support the teaching of these components, ensuring that course participants have the best learning experience possible.
You will support the end-to-end process of developing the informatic requirements of our courses, working with course instructors to finalise and document IT/software requirements; managing all aspects of virtual machine (VM) set ups (including building VMs, testing, enabling access via TeamViewer); and obtaining relevant software licences.
Ensuring the smooth running of teaching sessions and troubleshooting IT issues as required.
Maintaining informatics facilities, documenting and archiving materials (e.g. SOPs), supporting other Learning and Training colleagues with IT requirements, and supporting our Global Training offer.
**Essential Skills**:
Technical:
- Computer Science degree or Life Sciences degree with relevant computational experience
- Familiarity with the Linux (Ubuntu) operating system
- Familiarity with the Windows operating system, preferably in the context of its configuration and use for virtual machines within Oracle VM VirtualBox
- Experience of installing, configuring, and troubleshooting software in Windows
- Knowledge of bioinformatics

**Other Information**:
- Salary in the region of £32,000 to £38,000
- Training courses vary in length and duration, and some may require out of hours (evening/weekend) work and travel outside the UK.
