We have opportunities for permanent transport nurses (either fulltime or rotational) based with Centre Transport Team based at Castle Donington.

Main duties of the job

To provide expert, safe clinical care to premature and sick new born infants whilst in the care of Centre Neonatal Transport Service.

To work as an effective professional team member at all times

To communicate clearly and effectively with members of the multi-disciplinary team within the transport service and the wider referring community.

To act as a role model in the delivery of expert clinical care for a given shift on an internal rotation basis.

To undertake agreed projects related to research, audit, practice and professional

development within the transport setting.

To provide clinical supervision of others.

To act as a lead specialist working with autonomy to provide expert care.

**ADVERT FIXED TERM 12 MONTHS FROM APPOINTMENT**

The service has one central base at Castle Donington working alongside the Midlands Critical Care Transport Service. To work flexible on a day-to-day basis to provide a transport service across the East and West Midlands. You may be required to work in other designated locations of the Trust as well as your central base.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based neonatal care to neonatal patients and their families according to changing healthcare needs and varying levels of complexity

Demonstrate competency in safe use of all technical equipment.

To be expert at interpreting any change in the clinical condition of the baby and take appropriate action to liaise with the multi-disciplinary team to respond to changes.

Recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations

Responsible for the safe transfer of babies outside of the hospital environment.

Where appropriate to undertake, with appropriate training, extended clinical skills, such as, venepuncture and intravenous cannulation.

Provide advice, education, support and information to parents and other family members / carers as required and involve them in the planning and delivery of care relating to the transport setting.

Establish and maintain effective communication with parents and other family members / carers during the transport episode.

Communicate with team members, medical and call handling colleagues to receive and provide reports on the progress of transfers throughout each shift.

Facilitate effective communication and liaison with other disciplines as necessary relating to transfers of sick new born and premature infants.

Ensure that fully accurate, complete and contemporaneous nursing records are written and maintained for each patient in accordance with agreed policy.

To work together with medical staff, ANNP’s, other health care professionals including administrative staff in the delivery of high standards of effective neonatal transport care.

To work with the transport education team in order to successfully complete the CenTre Transport Service induction and nurse competencies in order to become a fully competent transport nurse.

**Service Delivery & Development**

To actively work with the education team to ensure learners and new team members receive appropriate training and experience in the transport setting.

To share knowledge and experience in the field of neonatal intensive care and the transport environment with learners, new team members, staff within wider network units to ensure the best possible care for premature and sick new born infants

Recognises the risks to patient safety for infants undergoing transfer and works according to CenTre guidance & procedures to minimise these risks

To participate in the education strategy of CenTre Neonatal Transport Service, being prepared to participate in the training and education of fellow professionals

To work with professionals from other NHS trusts in the co-ordination of the safe transfer of sick and preterm infants.

To communicate effectively with other professionals utilising all available mediums e.g. spoken word, written documentation and online meetings etc.

To be flexible in the recognition that transport working patterns can occasionally be unpredictable
