The Associate National Director will, under the direction of the National Director, lead in delivering the strategic programmes within the Scottish Access Collaborative/Modernising Patient Pathways Programme (SAC/MPPP) and be recognised as the National Lead for that portfolio. These programmes are required to support delivery of determined ministerial objectives in line with national policy decisions. Within this context, the post holder will provide strategic national leadership to ensure local alignment of organisational solutions to national policy and the requirements of the broader local health economy.

Accountable for scoping, developing and managing wide ranging and complex programmes of work within their challenging portfolio to support delivery of improvement in both performance and patient experience.

To provide strategic leadership for their Portfolio across NHS Scotland’s Boards and Regions. They will also be a source of advice, guidance and challenge on the relevant key areas of delivery.

To provide leadership to support Health Boards and Regions meet the requirements of the delivery plans against which they will be assessed. This will include the development of Board and Regional capability to support them to attain the appropriate benefits identified.

In performing a recognised National Lead for their Portfolio there will be a requirement to act as an ambassador for their Portfolio and also the Centre for Sustainable Delivery in a high profile area where engaging and securing support is crucial to the successful delivery of the programme.

To develop positive, effective and credible working relationships, both internally and externally, to support the delivery of change programmes, improved patient experience, improved productivity, efficiency and clinical quality.

The postholder, with delegated responsibly from the National Director, will provide strong, effective and visible strategic leadership and management internally for the staff working within their Portfolio and also with external key stakeholders to support Boards in delivering safe, effective and person centered care to patients accessing services within NHS Scotland.
