**JOB PURPOSE**

To ensure the preparation of a balanced, healthy nutritious and tasty diet for children, following the specifications set in Banana Moon seasonal recipes. Adhering to the Policies & Procedures of Banana Moon Day Nursery and in compliance with the Environmental Health-Food Safety, Health and Safety guidelines to contribute towards ensuring highest possible Ofsted grading.

**JOB DUTIES**

**Health and Safety**
- Implement and ensure the Health and Safety, Heathy Eating and Allergen Management policy and procedures are met at all times.
- Ensure the full kitchen uniform, PPE is worn and personal hygiene requirements are maintained to a high standard.
- To ensure that all foods are covered and safely stored prior to serving and during transportation to the nursery rooms.
- To ensure that foods stored in the refrigerators and cupboards are covered and labelled.
- Temperatures of high-risk foods must be recorded at point of cooking and serving.
- Ensure that allergy management systems are in place.
- To prevent cross contamination of food within the kitchen area.
- To ensure the kitchen and equipment is kept clean, hygienic and in good working order, including all fridges and freezers, walls, ovens, floors and serving trolleys following the cleaning schedule. Crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are washed and sterilized in accordance with food safety guidelines.
- To ensure the hygienic, regular removal and storage of kitchen waste materials.
- To monitor and record the temperature of all fridge’s and freezer’ on a daily basis.
- To monitor and record the temperatures of food on delivery.

**Operational**
- Prepare meals and snacks to specification set in Banana Moon seasonal recipes.
- Ensure dish rotation is inline with nutritional guidelines to provide a balanced, healthy and varied weekly menu, taking into account dietary and cultural requirements of the children.
- To maintain the correct stock levels, regularly rotate stock and ensure all stock is clearly labelled to include expiry dates.
- To order stock in line with requirements and the budget
- To ensure that all foods are ready at the specified time and at an appropriate temperature for safe serving.
- Serve meals using receptacles and utensils that are safe for children to use and that encourages self-help and independence.
- To ensure the correct food is served to children with known allergies using the ‘yellow plate system’, as notified to you by the Nursery Manager.
- Queries and complaints relating to the meals / menu are recorded and reported to the Nursery Manager.
- Support the Nursery Staff in their daily routines, assisting in the preparation of snacks and the cooking of foods prepared by the children.
- Liaising with staff on tasks that are required of the kitchen to ensure high standards are fully maintained in your absence.
- To support the provision of learning opportunities and activities for the children.
- To attend meetings and training when required.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time
Part-time hours: 35 per week

**Salary**: £22,000.00-£24,000.00 per year
