The Advocacy Clerk will be responsible for managing all incoming communications into the Advocacy department, understanding the logistics of the role of barristers/advocates and organising the workload to properly structure their working days, ensuring the team has the bundles/paperwork they need in advance of hearing dates/drafting deadlines, conducting effective dialogue between instructing fee earners and the Advocacy department, making appointments, arranging meetings, and managing the Advocacy department diary.

Other duties include acting as a PA to the Head of Advocacy (Partner) when required, liaising regularly with the Head of Advocacy (Partner) and occasionally with the Managing Partner, working to strict deadlines, preparing correspondence and documents through audiotyping and word processing, providing support to other secretaries and the administration team as required, producing reporting metrics for the department, undertaking ad hoc administrative tasks as required, ensuring the confidentiality of all the firm’s and clients’ documentation and information, and delivering excellent levels of client care.

The salary for this position is dependent on experience, with standard working hours being 8:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday-Thursday and 8:30 am to 5 pm Friday. Employees are entitled to 23 days holiday per year, rising to 26 days (3 days reserved for Christmas closure of the office), 3 holiday buybacks per year after 1 year of service, and an extra day’s holiday for their birthday after 2 years of service. Private medical insurance is available after 2 years of service, and employees are entitled to 2 x salary Death in Service.
