Theatre Recovery Flow Capacity Coordinator

The post holder will be based within City Campus, Main Theatres and will be responsible for assisting the Recovery coordinator with managing the patient flow in and out of Theatre areas.

These areas include Main Theatres, Theatre 23 and maternity recovery,
The post holder will predominantly based in Main Theatres and remotely
assisting with patient flow in other areas of Theatre.

May be required to work cross-site if required.

**The post holder will be required to**:
Assist in all aspects of patient flow and capacity within Theatre Recovery and the outlying Recovery areas.

Update and maintain Nerve Centre, Medway and Blue sphere. Ability to use NOTIS.

Assist with challenging flow and capacity issues which may need further intervention, have an understanding of the limit of the role and understand when to escalate to the Acute Pathway Service Managers. The post holder will be required to assist with surge planning and have an active role in major incident planning, working under the supervision of the Theatre Co-Ordinator.

Be accountable for appropriately escalating difficulties with flow and capacity to the Recovery Coordinator at the earliest opportunity whilst actively seeking out solutions to the issues.

Assisting with meeting the comfort and hygiene needs of patients which will include: washing/ bathing, oral care, escorting to the toilet, assisting with bed pans/ commodes, making beds, assisting with dressing and dealing with dirty linen in accordance with procedures.

Assisting registered staff with taking and recording patients temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure and completing patient fluid balance charts, assisting with meeting the dietary needs of patients which will include distribution of drinks and meals and helping patients to eat and drink as required.

You will be joining a friendly, supportive, busy and motivated team of recovery staff. The successful applicant will need to be enthusiastic, reliable and adaptable with good communication skills and dedicated to providing a high level of patient care

Knowledge and Communication

Assist in all aspects of patient flow and capacity within Theatres

Liaise with the Theatre Co-Ordinator and escalate ward delays to the Acute Pathway Service Managers.

Ensure that the safety of the patients is paramount by identifying areas that are appropriate for Theatres patients to be discharged to.

Work flexibly and innovatively, be a resource for less experienced staff and strive for fewer delays for all patients within Theatres.

Encouraging staff to be involved in service changes and developments using processes defined within the division

Participating in a communication strategy which enables effective, two‑way communication

Ensuring that the clinical team is kept informed of the policies, direction and strategy of the division.

Taking an active role in self-development and identifying one’s own needs, taking appropriate steps to meeting those needs.

Complete audits relevant to admissions and discharges of all Theatre patients and produce reports for the divisional leaders.

Maintain good communication with other staff, patients and visitors including answering the telephone is a professional and courteous manner.

Make verbal reports to senior nursing staff regarding the patients on the ward as necessary, following this up with written documentation as needed.

Communicate with and provide support for patients, carers and visitors.

Maintain confidentiality with both written and verbal and ensuring correct storage of patient’s record at all times.

Establish and maintain a working rapport with the multi-disciplinary team.

Make work related telephone calls as necessary.

Ensure all documentation both written and verbal is clear and factual. Ensure all physical are and observations as well was verbal communication with the patient and other member of the MDT is documented.

Ensure you have documented all the care that you have given to the patient. Any observations or care omitted must be documented and escalated to the Nurse responsible for that patients care.
