**Key Duties**: Educational 1. Assist with countywide blood transfusion training in line with national and local guidelines. 2. Assist with countywide blood transfusion assessments with national and local guidelines.

3. Uphold the countywide blood transfusion policy. 4. Maintain countywide excel data base regarding mandatory training needs.

5. Assist with the development of patient information. 6. Assist with the development for patient care pathway.

7. Assist with the educational updates with link nurses. 8. Assist with the link with primary care settings for blood transfusion education.

9. Assist with the link with community hospitals for blood transfusion education. 10. Assist with the link with university (local) nurse student education.

11. Assist in education in regards to Patient Blood Mnagement (PBM). 12. Act as a specialist advisory role and promote safe and effective use of blood components.

Clinical Governance 1. Perform national regional and local audit as required and analyse results. 2. Assist with incident reporting investigations.

3. To promote an environment of reflection and learning form clinical incidents and complaints. 4. Contribute to the professional mandatory SHOT/SABRE reporting.

5. Contribute to risk reporting. 6. Assist with the quarterly reports for quality assurance reporting clinical governance committee.

7. Ensure compliance with traceability as stated in the EU directive 2001/83/EC. Leadership/Management 1. Deputise in the absence of the Lead Transfusion Practitioner.

2. Maintain high profile in the clinical area acting as a role model for other healthcare professionals. 3. Maintain effective communication to all areas including medical, nursing, phlebotomy and laboratory to enable all staff to keep up to date, on a countywide basis, re changes to policy and practice.

4. Assist with the review and development of relevant countywide policies, guidelines and portocols in line with national and European developments. 5. Attend Trust Transfusion Team (TTT) and Trust Transfusion Committee (TTC) meetings and complete actions assigned from the meetings.

6. Assist with the link between the primary care and community hospitals to ensure policies and procedures continue on a sealess path. 7. Assist with the communication/meetings/updates with link nurses.

8. Assist with influence and implementation of any changes to clinical practice trust wide, in regards to administration of blood components and products. 9. Assist in implementing national patient blood management initiatives.

Personal/Professional 1. Work towards all local and national guidelines and assist in implementing any changes required. 2. Attend local regional and national conference network meetings and forums to keep specialist knowledge and skills up to date.

3. Act as positive role model. 4. Demonstrate highly effective communication skills.

5. The postholder will be competent in using Microsoft office 6. The postholder will be using a wide range of Trust systems including Winpath, EPR, ESR, Clip. 7.

Ensure Trust Policies and procedures are adhered to. 8. Ensure you maintain your professional registration. 9.

Interpersonal and problem-solving skills are essential. 10. Assist in Audits to improve the service. 11.

The postholder is expected nto ensure personal and professional development is maintained. Research 1. Undertake research in best practice for blood components or products. 2.

Undertake audits for best practice with blood and blood components trust wide. 3. Undertake audit for appropriate usage of blood and blood components. Communication 1.

Demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with patients, relatives, clients and colleagues. 2. Communicate highly complex and sensitive information to patients, carers and other staff. 3.

The postholder will need to have effective communication skills as he/she will be expected to deliver teaching/training programmes to all disiplines across the organisation that have a role in the transfusion process. 4. Develop effective relationships and communication with external groups 5. Give clear advice regarding further training needs following incident investigations to all levels of staff.

6. Provide advice to all staff levels regarding the blood transfusion service. Patient Involvement 1. Assist with providing to specialist advice and information to patients when required.

2. Assist with the development of patient information leaflets for blood component transfusions. 3. Assist with the formulation of a Focus/patient participation group to make aware patient needs.

4. Act as a patients avocate when referrals are made regarding refusal of blood transfusion, ensuring the Trust policy is adhered to and the patient is fully informed regarding alternatives (if possible) or potential consequences that may ensue in the event of a life-threatening situation.
