Derby, United Kingdom National Trust Full time

We use a hybrid working model that mixes home, office and on site working. Expect to be onsite at properties at least 3 days a week. Due to the extensive travel required in this role, you will need a full driving licence with access to your own vehicle.

This is a permanent role offering a salary in the region of £48,000.

What it's like to work here:Your work will be integrated into our National Trust Consultancy which provides properties with advice and practical support across the full range of conservation and supporter development activities. You’ll bring to the team an in-depth conservation building knowledge, a high level of experience and the ability to work at pace in complex technical situations.

What you'll be doing:You’ll be allocated several places that you will act as building surveyor lead for: these will include Kedleston, Longshaw and Shugborough, plus others in due course. While you will manage and support projects at these sites, we seek to match skillsets with the work needed, so this can mean involvement at other places in region. You’ll work alongside other Building Surveyors and be supported by the wider building surveyor community in the Midlands & East of England and nationally.

Whether it’s mansion houses, historic farmsteads, or aspects of civil infrastructure, you’ll be responsible for the provision of an excellent building service, taking work from inception to delivery. Your work will be focussed on larger-scale planned maintenance and on higher value project work for our in-hand estate (this can be conservation or compliance related). You’ll provide expert advice, and delivery of building work to the highest conservation standards. You’re likely to act as project manager, following the NT’s project governance framework and managing external advisers and contractors. You’ll contribute to project planning and lead building conservation condition assessments.

Managing relationships with stakeholders is critical. Your internal clients are usually National Trust General Managers and Facilities Managers at local sites. You’ll be involved with other NT specialists, and statutory and local authority officers. You’ll be able to clearly communicate the essential elements of the work and collaborate on finding the best solutions.
- Who we're looking forFull membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors/Chartered Institute of Building.
- A good knowledge of professional building consultancy across complex portfolios, with knowledge of building conservation, defect diagnosis, maintenance, and repair.

- An understanding of relevant legislation and best practice
- A knowledge of contract appointment and administration
- Experience of financial responsibility for projects and cyclical work
- Strong communication skills focused on the client’s needs and what’s needed to progress the work to schedule and standards.
- Skills, focus and organisation in order to prioritise your work.
