**About you**

Are you self-motivated, happy working in a team environment and flexible enough to adapt to a changing environment? If this sounds like you, here are some specific types of experience that will help you hit the ground running.

**Experience of**:

- Classroom or group teaching;
- Teaching for exams (e.g., Grade 5 theory)

**Skills and knowledge**:

- A range of music aural and theory skills including but not limited to GCSE and A Level syllabus;
- Inclusive music pedagogical skills;
- An awareness of and interest in inclusive musical practices;
- Music education and youth sectors;
- Ability to share passion for music and encourage excitement for music in students;
- Flexibility with students of different ages, level of knowledge, and learning styles;
- Safeguarding in education contexts.

**Desirable**
- Experience of teaching through online platforms;
- Familiarity with ABRSM;
- Knowledge of a diverse range of genres;
- Aural training skills

**About the role of **CAT Music Language Tutor**

Sage Gateshead’s Make Music is a leading musical training programme for young people aged between 4 and 19. It supports young musicians to develop the skills and confidence to reach their musical potential through specialist training, tuition, and inspirational opportunities to work with international visiting artists. The Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) is one of a network of CATs, which create environments for young people with musical potential to thrive. The Centre for Advanced Training at Sage Gateshead is the most advanced part of our training pathway, where young people can realise their potential as musicians.

The Centre for Advanced Training Music Language Tutor will be part of the CAT Tutor team. The role will involve teaching young people aged 8-19 on Sundays during term time at Sage Gateshead or occasionally on Sage Gateshead’s Online Platform.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Teach young people on Sundays in group music theory lessons;
- Support individual students in additional sessions where required;
- Contribute and create relevant and effective resources to support teaching and planning;
- Contribute to quality assurance of the programme and make reasonable modifications as required;
- Contribute to programme monitoring and evaluation as required. Make sure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed and contribute to high quality pastoral care for students, working closely with relevant colleagues to maintain consistency and high standards;
- Work closely with colleagues to connect the CAT and students with Sage Gateshead’s artistic programme;
- To accept appropriate individual responsibility for the observance, promotion and implementation of Health and Safety, Child protection, Equality and Diversity and other policies within the Trust;
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the post and in line with the needs of the organisation.
