Urban Heard is looking for an experienced youth worker to join our team to work with young people to **listen**, **support** and **challenge **to help them thrive and be positive about their future. We are looking for someone who aligns with our mission, values and standards in an **exciting**, **unpredictable** and **rewarding** role.

Based at our Youth Centre in Fordbridge, you will work with the team to deliver open access youth sessions, workshops and holiday programmes, as well as chip in with the daily running of the centre, such as setting up and tidying away. A large part of your role will be developing relationships with young people between the ages of 12- 17years and to become a trusted adult who motivates them and supports them in making positive decisions and have optimism for their futures. In the day the role will involve delivering 1-1 mentoring using the tool Outcome Star, as well as deliver workshops about mental health, money management and other key topics to classes and assemblies and then in the evening, it will be facilitating structured and unstructured youth settings at the youth centre. During school holiday we are looking for someone who would be comfortable leading/supporting in a holiday club where we offer experiences, activities and opportunities to young people who may not get the chance elsewhere. We are looking for someone who thrives in being flexible and enjoys the unpredictability of working with teenagers and within the youth sector.

You will receive training opportunities around exploitation, safeguarding, trauma informed practices and substance misuse, however previous knowledge or experience in these topics would be fantastic.

**Hours**: 11am to 7pm term time Monday to Friday and 10am to 6pm in school holidays.

**Pay**: £11 an hour

**Terms**:Fixed 2 year, with opportunity for extension based on performance

**Qualities and qualifications needed for this role are**:

- Youth work experience
- Trustworthy and honest
- Experience of working with young people with SEND and dealing with EHC plans.
- Confidence
- Ability to command a room of teenagers
- Exceptional communication skills verbal AND written.
- Comfortable working in an ever changing and constantly growing environment
- Passionate about motivating and inspiring young people.
- Personable and likeable
- Ability to work with all people from all backgrounds, disabilities and cultures.

**Duties and Key responsibilities**

**Mentoring**:

- Use your experience to mentor, guide and support the young people in their role, whilst also allowing them some autonomy to develop their own skills, with room for creativity.
- Be an advocate for the young people to go to for any issues or problems.
- Use Outcome Star in working with young people to support in the management of the mentoring.

**Youth Club**:

- To create authentic and reliable professional relationships with young people so that you can support them and motivate them to be active citizens and to thrive in life.
- Organise and deliver fun and engaging activities at the youth centre that engages with 12 - 17 years old.
- To coordinate our three-stage model and ensure that all outcomes are achieved for the project assigned to you.
- Work with young people to create a campaign to do with the topic we are raising awareness of.
- Help with the recruitment of young people.
- Ensure that registers and paperwork is completed daily for the youth centre
- Work with young people to ensure youth centre is youth centric.
- Support with the provision of a hot meal each day and run cooking sessions with the young people safely in the centre
- Work with or provide music sessions in the music studio.

**Workshops**:

- To deliver workshops and to actively seek to improve the workshops to best suit audiences.
- To be charismatic and engaging in the delivery of workshops regardless of the size of audience.
- Support their campaign ideas and events ensuring that their safety is always a priority, whist encouraging young people to ‘think big’ creatively.

**Other**:

- Ensure you follow all policies and procedures
- To feedback to organisation and area of need for the young people in your groups to see if there are further projects which could benefit.
- Support a young person and work with all relevant agencies when there is a disclosure/ safeguarding concern.
