Trainee / First Contact Practitioner (Paramedic)

Buxton, United Kingdom Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust Full time

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee/First Contact Paramedic to join our growing and diverse team of PCN staff across the High Peak.

This permanent position would appeal to enthusiastic, motivated, and proactive individuals who are keen to further develop their skills and be an integral part of a developing primary care workforce.

In this role you will work closely with GP practices within the High Peak PCN, as well as the additional staff that have already been recruited including Community GP, Operational Lead, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Adult Liaison Officer and team administrators.

You will work closely with PCN staff including Pharmacy, first contact Physiotherapists and Social Prescribers.

The post holder will be an integral part of the Ageing Well team, working as and when required across High Peak & Buxton.

Trainee/First Contact Paramedics work autonomously within the community and as a member of the MDT team.

They use their enhanced clinical assessment and treatment skills to provide first point of contact for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems relating to minor illness or injury, abdominal pains, chest pains and headaches.

They are health professionals who practice at an enhanced level having the capability to make sound judgements in the absence of full information and to manage varying degrees of risk when there are complex, competing or ambiguous information or uncertainty.

Our purpose is to provide community health services to a patient population of over one million people in Derbyshire and Derby, as part of Joined Up Care Derbyshire.

We employ around 4,200 substantive staff, caring for patients in 11 community hospitals and more than 30 health centres, as well as in clinics, GP practices, schools, care homes and, increasingly, in people’s own homes and via virtual consultations.

During the pandemic response we have led the implementation of public vaccination centres in collaboration with partners across health and social care.
