**Why do an Apprenticeship in Childcare?**_

Working with children really is a career like no other. You have the chance to shape a young person's life, inspire their creative thought process and teach them skills they will use forever. Completing a _**Modern Apprenticeship**_ will equip you with the skills and knowledge required to become a qualified Practitioner.

A Modern Apprenticeship is a work-based qualification and you will be allocated one of our friendly Assessors here at l&g learning to help support you throughout your Apprenticeship.
- **How long will it take to complete?**_

You can expect to complete your Modern Apprenticeship in around 12 months. Once completed, you will become a fully qualified Early Years Practitioner.
- **What are the entry requirements for the Programme?**_

You should demonstrate a desire to work within the Childcare sector and have some form of relatable experience. Applicants must have good communication skills, be confident with in the moment planning and use their initiative.

Ideally you will have three National 4 qualifications including English. However, we understand that not everyone will have achieved this level of qualification and will take this into consideration.
- **Main duties and responsibilities**:_
- To help plan, provide and take part in play-based activities that stimulate and support children’s learning and development.
- To listen to, encourage and support children in their play, learning and development.
- To assist and support children with personal care requirements. This may include changing nappies, assisting with toileting needs, changing clothes and shoes and helping children at mealtimes.
- To accompany the children and other members of the team on regular trips, for example to playgroups or on other planned outings.
- To abide by all policies and procedures within the setting and be aware of Care Inspectorate requirements.
- To help to ensure the setting is a safe environment by following health and safety procedures and checking equipment is safe to use and age appropriate.
- To be aware of the settings child protection policy and the signs and symptoms of child abuse.
- To be aware of emergency procedures and what procedures are to be followed in the event of an accident or incident. First Aid training will be arranged within the first 6 months of employment.
- To be aware of infection control and ensure good hygiene standards.
- To ensure all administration and paperwork records are maintained as directed by the registered childminder and to ensure compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). These might include accident / incident reports, attendance records, equipment cleaning and maintenance records.
- To build and maintain positive relationships with the children, families who use the service, the registered childminder and other people the service is in regular contact with, for example at playgroups, schools and play centers.
- To listen to, follow instructions and communicate well with the registered childminder. Any concerns or issues should be raised immediately, or the Whistleblowing / Raising Concerns Procedure followed. Any ideas or suggestions to improve any aspect of the service should be shared with the registered childminder.
- To always abide by the service’s confidentiality policy. All information regarding the children and families who use the service, the registered childminder and their family is strictly confidential and cannot be discussed with a third party without the registered childminder’s specific permission, or in an emergency.
- To undergo any induction and training procedures as requested by the registered childminder and in keeping with Care Inspectorate requirements.
- To refresh and update training as required and take responsibility for own professional development.
