Legal and Contracts Officer

Morgan Hunt are working with Newcastle College Group to hire a Contracts/Information Governance Paralegal on a permanent basis. The position will be based in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Summary of main purpose of role:
This job will see you undertaking tasks to ensure the success of the Legal and Contracts service area. Within the role you will have the opportunity to undertake activity across the legal and contracts area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal and administrative support to the Chief Operations and Compliance Office and the Director of Legal and Contracts.
- Review commercial contracts to protect the business by flagging concerns and risks, and mitigate said risks by negotiated improved terms.
- Draft, as necessary, income and expenditure contracts to protect the charity's assets and to support the furtherance of its objectives.
- Maintain precedent documentation to reflect changes in policies, funding guidance, legislation and prime contract changes.
- Assist in the company's compliance of legal obligations (for example in relation to predominantly commercial and corporate law, but as necessary, employment, H&S, pensions, and property, etc).
- Deliver education, training and awareness presentations on relevant aspects of legal and contracts activity.
- Review, develop, implement and maintain relevant internal policies and procedures in accordance with their review cycle.
- To lead on specific projects (supported by senior staff) in relation to service priorities.
- Prepare, as requested, documentation to resolve any disputes arising.
- Undertake any other tasks and responsibilities appropriate to the level of this post.
Essential Experience/Qualifications:
- Educated to GCSE level (including Maths and English)
- Educated to degree level in law (LLB or Graduate Diploma in Law) or above
- Experience of drafting and review legal documentation
- Experience of working collaboratively in a high performing team.
- An existing understanding of Information Governance and / or Data Protection
- An existing understanding of Commercial Law
- Excellent Communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and reasoning skills focused on problem solving and risk
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff to share this commitment.
- Ability to travel away from home (including occasional nights away from home)
Desirable Experience/Qualifications:
- Qualified in Information Governance.
- Qualified in GDPR
- Experience of working with Further or Higher Education.
- Experience of delivering Information Governors and / or Data Protection.
- Experience of working to a set of externally mandated rules and regulations.
- Experience in creating developing and delivering presentations.
- Experience of working in a customer faced environment
- Ability to produce accurate reports and documentation
- Knowledge of Information Risk Management
- Ability to negotiate and influence
