Junior Inspector

Summary
The Remote Inspector and Customer Support Assistant will be responsible for:

- reviewing on-screen photographs of electrofusion welds in order to assess whether correct procedures are being followed
- recording the results of the inspection
- receiving telephone calls from customers and helping to resolve issues relating to our Weld Inspection services.

Background
Within the UK Water and Gas Utility sectors Polyethylene pipe networks are predominately connected using electrofusion welding. Electrofusion is a technique using a coupler into which a polyethylene pipe is inserted, the coupler is manufactured with conducting wires. When controlled power is applied by an electrofusion control unit the wires heat up and fuse the pipe material to the coupler material, creating a water
- or gas-tight joint.

In order to create a quality electrofusion weld a number of actions are required including.
- Clamping for alignment
- Pipe surface scraping to remove the degraded layer of polymer
- Ensuring a clean post-scrape pipe surface and internal coupler wall
- A full uninterrupted heating cycle.

These electrofusion weld assessments are then stored on a cloud-based portal called JointManager that is accessible by customers to view and analyse weld quality.
