St Joseph’s is a registered charitable trust comprising a special school, college, children’s home and adult supported living houses. We are seeking a flexible, experienced Groundsperson to be the lead worker for grounds, lawns and gardens within our Estates& Facilities Team. St Joseph’s Specialist Trust is located on a 23 acre former country estate set back from the village of Cranleigh, south of Guildford, on the edge of the Surrey Hills, comprising lawns, fields, mature trees, planted borders, nature and studenthorticulture areas.

You will be responsible for leading, coordinating and undertaking general maintenance and enhancements within our site (supported by members of the E&F Team) as well as associated path and driveway clearance, chemicals and machinery storage and maintenanceand training of less experienced member of the E&F team. You will work with the Horticulture Teacher in planning of RHS practical work and arrange tasks for work experience students. The role includes responding to calls for urgent grounds assistance as wellas more routine requests. You will have a UK driving licence. The ability to drive a small tractor and operate grounds and garden machinery and equipment is also desireable.

You MUST have the skills to be able to work independently and also within the wider E&F team, including leading grounds related tasks.

Hours are 40 each week, 8.00am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday with a half hour unpaid break each day. Some flexibility is desirable to deal with on site requirements needing to be completed in specified timescales around the workings of the education and careteams or on specific projects. Appropriate safety gear will be provided and CPD courses will be available to upskill areas of knowledge requiring development or expansion eg machinery usage training. Own transport is desirable due to our semi-rural locationon the edge of Cranleigh, Surrey.

**The role includes**:

- Undertaking a range of practical tasks to ensure that our site and grounds are safe, clean, and well maintained.
- Daily, periodic, and seasonal grounds tasks as directed and in accordance with schedules.
- Site and grounds safety checks in accordance with schedules.
- Undertaking grounds tasks using a range of equipment and machinery, including drive on mower and tractor.
- Coordinating and allocating daily and periodic tasks.
- Arranging grounds consumables, materials and chemicals, and their storage and safe handling including COSHH.
- Arranging grounds equipment and machinery, and their safe operation.
- Assisting the wider E&F team in small works and projects.
- Ensuring safe working practices and site health and safety.
- Assisting in risk assessments and grounds related health and safety.
- Dealing with grounds related contractors working on site.
- Assisting the wider E&F team setting-up for events and changes around the site
- Other estates and facilities related practical tasks.
