Act as the clinical expert and professional resource to the patients and carers and multi-professional team, within transfusion medicine.

Work alongside clinical teams to ensure the development and delivery of a high-quality service for transfusion.

Directly or indirectly influence all aspects of care and management of patients requiring transfusion.

Participate in the promotion of operational safety of the transfusion process within the Trust.

Participate in the implementation of new methods and practices in relation to transfusion, looking particularly at ways to reduce blood component usage in a safe and cost-effective manner.

Support the development and delivery of a program of practice and professional development for clinical staff involved in all aspects of transfusion.

Facilitate and participate in the delivery of pre-operative assessment and optimisation of anaemia in an outpatient environment.

Act as the professional lead for Cell Salvage within the Trust

Act as a role model, demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership.

Provide specialist knowledge and expertise in the delivery of high standards of patient care to patients undergoing transfusion.

Promote high quality clinical care and provide specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients undergoing transfusion

Promote and deliver high standards of care at all times which utilises research based evidence and is audited and improved accordingly.

Lead and participate in education and training programmes and develop training packages relating to transfusion.

Participate in the promotion of the transfusion service through the dissemination of specialist knowledge both locally and nationally.

Evaluate transfusion practice and implement changes to reflect current guidelines

Establish and maintain effective working relationships throughout UHL and the wider arena.

Act as the professional lead for Cell Salvage within the Trust

- Promote patient and public involvement and enhancing their experience by supporting and implementing new initiatives relating to patient centred care.
- Raise the profile of patient and public involvement by embedding this within own sphere of practice.

PROMOTE AND ESTABLISH EFFECTIVE TEAM WORKING AND COMMUNICATION
- Take responsibility for ensuring effective communication between the HTT and all service users.
- Establish and maintain good positive working relationships with the Heads of Nursing, Sister / Charge Nurse and their teams, Education and Practice Development Lead, Matrons, relevant Clinicians, Service Managers and General Mangers.
- Develop working partnerships between the Trust and academic staff at local Universities involved in the provision of nursing and multi professional programmes of education.
- Actively participate in local, national and international networking to maintain and develop expert level of knowledge in transfusion.
- Ensure that the importance and implications of education, research, and ideas are raised in appropriate forums.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT
- Provide specialist education and training to all members of the clinical team and nursing staff throughout UHL.
- Actively participate in life long learning and personal development through appraisal and Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) development plans.
- Promote and implement patient focused education and information giving strategy within the Trust.
- Work with the Lead Transfusion Practitioner / HTT to ensure that specialist education and training meets the needs of the service, multi-professional clinical teams, patients and carers.
