In line with the Government’s Shared Services Strategy, UKSBS is currently engaged as the future service provider within the Matrix Programme. The Programme’s aim is to deliver a modern, cost-effective and scalable shared business services to nine Departments (the Policy Cluster) in a flexible way that can meet changing Government requirements, and drive innovation to optimise efficiencies and enhance user experience. The Programme will also implement a new modern SaaS ERP platform, from which UKSBS can deliver these services, driving harmonisation and significant business change across the Departments. This is a large, complex multi-year Programme.

Our Payroll team within Operations consists of a variety of knowledgeable professionals with differing levels of skills and abilities, working together to focus on quality results. We collaborate to deliver high quality pay related services to our customers in a fast-paced and high energy environment, meeting strict deadlines.

We’re looking for a Senior Payroll Specialist (Payroll SME) to join us at this exciting time to work across our Payroll team and on the Matrix Programme, sharing your expertise and knowledge about payroll processes, to represent and lead in a variety of ways into the work to define the wider Matrix Target Operating Model.

To do this role well you will need:

- Excellent knowledge of Payroll processes and best practice
- Current Payroll operations Subject Matter Expert knowledge with the ability to lead as the Payroll SME
- Experience of building and maintaining effective relationships with senior internal/external stakeholders
- A proactive and problem-solving approach, with a clear focus on delivery and the strategic direction of the business
- Ability to set and achieve project timelines and work to deadlines with conflicting priorities
- Confidence to professionally challenge and flag risk

In return for your skills and experience, we work a mixture of full and part time hours across a 37hr week with varying working patterns. We have a hybrid working model which offers flexibility; some of the business work remotely from home coming into one of our offices once a week, and some of us prefer to be in the office more often. If it helps, there is even flexibility on which office you base yourself from - Swindon, Newport, or Billingham.
