As a Registrar you will enjoy playing a key role in delivering a variety of essential front-line services to customers at key stages of their lives. **About you**

**As a Registrar**:

- You will be creating permanent historic records so the ability to enter manual and electronic information with high levels of accuracy is essential.
- You must have excellent customer care skills with experience of working in a busy customer-facing environment and of dealing sensitively, efficiently and professionally with customer enquiries.
- You should be flexible and be able to adapt to regularly changing demands and priorities.
- You will also be a good team player but able to work independently with minimum supervision to make decisions and meet deadlines.
- Although your main base will be in Merrion House, you will also work occasionally at other Community hubs across the city. You will also be required to attend at marriage and civil partnership ceremonies at various locations in Leeds.

Working hours are 8.30 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. Monday to Friday although the services does operate a limited flexi-time scheme. The role also involves working on one in four Saturdays and occasional out of hours (including Sunday) working for which additional out of hours payments are made.

**About the role**

The duties of a registrar date back to 1837 although have evolved a little since then. Recruitment opportunities occur infrequently, reflecting the dedication of those delivering the service.

As a registrar you will be dealing with customers at key stages of their lives; helping them to deal with bereavement, sharing in the joy of new births and taking part in marriage or civil partnership celebrations. If you enjoy working closely with members of the public there can be few more satisfying roles.

In delivering our services you will also be representing Leeds City Council so have the opportunity of demonstrating what a great service the council can provide to members of the local community.

And in making a permanent record of these events, you as the registrar, will be forming part of the history of Leeds.

**Responsibilities**
- To register births, deaths and still-births and to be personally responsible for all associated statutory and administrative functions.
- To capture customer information for the Tell Us Once service
- To ensure the security of registers, register pages, certificates, schedules, related documents and fees collected
- To ensure the highest levels of accuracy in manual records and electronic registrations
- To register marriages
- To identify and take appropriate action to deal with forced and sham marriages/civil partnerships
- To attend and support the Senior registrar at Civil Partnership and Citizenship ceremonies
- To provide a sensitive, polite and professional service to customers and to consistently achieve high levels of customer satisfaction
- To take customer payments, reconcile and bank income in accordance with Financial Regulations and to provide accurate and timely financial information to management
