About the Role
Digital Ecology’s work is underpinned by good quality ecological data. As our work grows and
evolves we are in need of a field ecologist to support our digital work. Increasingly we are
also collecting ecological data for client projects, supporting our clients to make the best
decisions for the natural environment.
The role will be focussed on carrying out ecological surveys, in particular habitat surveys and
habitat condition assessments. There will also be opportunities for other surveys, in
particular, surveys that deploy digital tech.
The role will also include work supporting clients in adopting digital tech into their work,
providing training and demonstrations in the use of digital tech in the field.
Key to Digital Ecology is our wok in best practice for biodiversity net gain (BNG). The post
holder will provide ecological data to support BNG assessments and long term monitoring, as
well as providing advice to clients in delivering net gains for biodiversity.
This role will be vital in helping clients adopt digital tech, as well as providing consultancy
services in ecology and biodiversity projects.

are plenty of opportunities to develop skills and define a role in the company.

The job is 100% remote and flexible on hours to accommodate life’s competing priorities. It is
expected that the Digital Ecology team would meet in person periodically in a mutually
convenient location.
Digital Ecology are committed to learning and development and will support the Field Ecologist
with training and development opportunities.
We also support contributions to open source projects, particularly those we use frequently.
About you
Experience in carrying out habitat surveys, preferably using the UKHab classification
system.
Experience in carrying out habitat condition assessments, preferably in accordance with
DEFRA BNG metric guidance
Experience of carrying out other ecology surveys (e.g. invertebrates, birds, bats).
Experience of using the DEFRA biodiversity net gain metric.
Good reporting writing skills
Knowledge and experience of GIS will be an advantage.
Experience of the programming language R is an advantage but not essential.
Full clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential
Ability and willingness to travel for survey work throughout England.
