Do you have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills? We are seeking to appoint a Student Support Assistant to work in the Student Affairs and Support Team (SAST) within the School of Medicine and Population Health. The ability to work independently and collaboratively is essential, as is the ability to plan and manage workload, in consultation with the line manager and colleagues, to accommodate unscheduled tasks as required.
The SAST within the Division of Clinical Medicine supports the academic, career, professional, and personal development and success of student doctors on the University of Sheffield MBChB course. They do this by providing a supportive and inclusive environment that enhances students’ intellectual experience, facilitates career planning, fosters a feeling of wellbeing, stimulates professional development, provides leadership opportunities, and celebrates the success of all students. The team has 4 professional services staff members and 10 academic members.
You will work closely with the academic and professional services members of the SAST who deliver and develop the support framework for the undergraduate medical students. This includes the provision of pastoral, disability liaison and wellbeing support to students and managing interventions for students in difficulty. It also includes progression monitoring of students to ensure that the professionalism requirements of the GMC for doctors in training are maintained. The team additionally produce policy and strategic initiatives to ensure that support meets best practice and national initiatives in providing an excellent student experience.
We are committed to enabling our employees to work in a hybrid model with flexibility over when, where and how to achieve the required outputs, in discussion with your manager.
We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.
We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
