An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Clinical Coding team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust for an NHS experienced non ACC/ACC qualified coder.
We expect you to poses **_either_** your NCCQ - Accredited Clinical Coder (professional qualification - Institute of Health Record and Information Management) **_or_** equivalent coding expertise (evidenced through testing)
You’ll have a minimum of 2 years NHS coding experience in a variety of specialties with documented evidence of formal training and competency achievement gained or formal refresher training.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will abstract and analyse clinical information from digitised casenotes, other relevant documents, hospital electronic systems and translate into diagnostic and operative procedure codes using the current classifications, adhering to the national standards and conventions, inputting the data on to the Trust’s patient information system to meet the Trust’ financial and statistical data commitments.
You’ll need the ability to work independently, code accurately to national coding guidelines with little or no supervision and organise/prioritise your own day to day work requirements. You’ll be physically capable of sitting for prolonged periods, using computer systems.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will abstract and analyse relevant clinical data from a variety of manual and computerised sources, including digitised case notes, laboratory reports and discharge summaries. You will need to be confident working independently with mínimal supervision.
You will ensure that complex clinical data regarding diagnoses and surgical procedures on patient episodes is coded using national (OPCS-4) and international (ICD-10) or any other classifications that may be implemented in the future adhering to all national standards and conventions.
You will be responsible for entering coded clinical information into the Trust’s patient information system in conjunction with a clinical encoder ensuring accuracy, completeness and timeliness at all times.
You will work within tight deadlines whilst maintaining a high quality of accuracy and completeness of clinical coding.

Essential criteria
- NCCQ - Accredited Clinical Coder (professional qualification established by Connecting for Health in collaboration with Institute of health record and information management) or equivalent coding expertise (evidenced through testing)
- Possess 5 GCSE/GCE or equivalent experience
