Night Homeless Support Worker

CHESS Homeless are looking for someone to join their team of night support staff to ensure quality provision of accommodation to homeless individuals.
This role is for a regular one night shift a week 14.5hrs worked between 6.45pm-9.15am, but there is an expectation that the successful applicant will help to provide cover for other team leave.
The night shift lengths are as follows
- Monday
- Friday
- 14.5hrs, 6.45pm-9.15am
Sat
- 15.5hrs, 6.45pm-10.15am
Sunday
- 16.5hrs, 4.45pm-9.15pm
**Job purpose**
- To manage practical aspects of the running of the shelter when on shift.
- To assess the needs of homeless individuals approaching CHESS for support and help the team identify suitable applicants
- To manage entry, exit and risk for service users in the Shelter
- To link/ refer clients to appropriate specialist services outside of CHESS
- Handle enquiries from other CHESS accommodation as necessary
- To keywork service users
**Areas of responsibility**:
- To take responsibility for the practical running of the accommodation when on shift and provide an effective handover to the next staff member on duty.
- To manage entry, exit and risk for service users in the accommodation. This may involve breathalyser readings, temperature checks, ad hoc drug tests and confronting difficult situations.
- To undertake client support referrals, risk assessments, support plans and meetings, as required and refer to the Day team as necessary.
- To identify areas of need and ensure clients are referred/accessing appropriate help
- To work with clients to enable them to access housing services, enabling them to move on and into sustainable living
- To do room checks and ensure health and safety measures are maintained in the facility for smooth and safe operations.
- To recieve and process donations delivered to the shelter, as necessary. This will involve lifting.
- To prepare and provide meals for residents if volunteers aren't available.
- To assist with practical aspects of CHESS accommodation operations including washing, sanitising and moves inside CHESS as necessary. This may involve lifting.
- To adhere to the code of conduct and policies set out by CHESS to ensure the safe provision of services to single Homeless people in Essex
- To work alongside security staff and direct volunteers where necessary. The applicant should be aware there are also periods of lone working.
- To handle enquiries from service users in other CHESS accommodation
- Must be flexible to take on other shifts to cover other staff leave
- Other ad-hoc tasks given by the Support Managers as appropriate to the role.
- To ensure the safety of all service users and report safeguarding concerns according to CHESS policy and procedures.

**Essential**
- Understanding of or experience of working face to face with vulnerable people.
- Work in a Support Environment
- Ability to assess clients risks and needs and produce support pathways and plans
- Competent at working with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook
- Good knowledge of voluntary sector services and statutory rights of homeless people
- Ability to accurately record data
- Networking and developing relationships with community agencies
- Understanding of safe-guarding procedures
- Knowledge of health and safety requirement
- **Full current driving licence**
**Desirable**
- NVQ Level 2 Health & Social Care
- Previous charity experience and working with volunteers
- Knowledge of the Homelessness Star
