The Catch22 Multi Academies Trust is the vehicle for our sponsorship of an expanding number of academies focusing on learners who can benefit from small, supportive alternative education provision.

The Brunel Academy is an alternative education provision for learners aged 11 to 16-years-old, whose needs cannot be met within a mainstream environment. The Academy provides placements for young people in the Torbay area who exhibit social, emotional and behavioural concerns.

We believe that all learners have the ability to succeed and make the most of the next stages of their lives. We promote key life skills so that they have the confidence and tools to reach their full potential as learners and citizens.

**Job Description**:
**The responsibilities of this role include**:

- Support and develop a positive and proactive safeguarding culture throughout the school.
- Deliver safeguarding training to staff and provide regular updates to staff members.
- Support staff in developing their safeguarding knowledge and practice within the school.
- Line Manage staff where appropriate
- Support the staff with further training and development.
- Liaise with external agencies with appropriate referrals, additional information and providing timely updates.
- Complete, and support staff members to complete, external agency referrals and assessments.
- Complete, and support staff members to complete, child protection and child in need reports.
- Support with students improving their attendance. Work with colleagues to ensure attendance is challenged and supported. Carry out home visits where necessary.
- Participate in multi agency meetings to support students and families (to include, child protection and child in need reviews).
- Support in identifying students/families in need of early help and in the completion of referrals, assessments and reviews.
- Liaise with community partners in the identification of local safeguarding concerns and share information with staff and parents as appropriate.
- Provide and present safeguarding reports to the governing body and attend regular meetings with the safeguarding governor. Liaise with the governor allocated to safeguarding on a half termly basis.
- Complete the safeguarding audit and support staff members to complete safeguarding audit actions.
- Escalate safeguarding concerns within the local authority where progress is not consistently made.
- Manage the school’s safeguarding database, provide regular reports and staff training.
- Support the deputy designated safeguarding leads to identify actions to improve school attendance and individual student action plans.
- Promote educational outcomes by sharing the information about the welfare, safeguarding and child protection issues that children, including children with a social worker, are experiencing, or have experienced, with teachers and school and college leadership staff. Ensure that the school and their staff, know who these children are, understand their academic progress and attainment and maintain a culture of high aspirations for this cohort. Support teaching staff to identify the challenges that children in this group might face and the additional academic support and adjustments that they could make to best support these children.
- Keep accurate safeguarding records, which might be used in case conferences and regular professional meetings. To efficiently record all safeguarding details using the agreed database system, to keep that data management system up to date and to produce reports to support case reviews and evaluations as requested.

**Qualifications**:
**Experience**:

- Working within a special educational needs environment and supporting students with challenging behaviour.
- Doing SEN assessments, legislation and statutory guidance, with particular reference to the Education Act 1996, Equality Act 2010 and the SEN code of practice 2001.
- Building relationships with students and their parents/carers, particularly the most vulnerable
- Working and communicating effectively with relevant agencies
- Implementing and encouraging good safeguarding practice throughout a large team of people
- Demonstrating evidence of developing and implementing strategies to help students and their families.
- Handling large amounts of sensitive data and upholding the principles of confidentiality.

Qualifications:

- Designated Safeguarding Lead Training
- GCSE’s or Equivalent at Grade C or above in English and Maths

Additional Information

**Contract**: Full time - Permanent

**Hours**: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

**Salary**: Zone 3 Grade F (£27,500.00 - £30,000.00 per annum)
