Job description

**About us**: The Student Advice Team are passionate about the student experience and are always looking at ways to improve our service.

The role of a Student Advice Coordinator is to lead the work within the team around student engagement and retention. Primarily, the university looks at attendance through the MyAttendance system which enables students to evidence their attendance at key teaching events. Engagement with studies across a range of data sets is measured through the MyEngagement system - an algorithm determines a student by student engagement score that helps the university to make proactive contact with students where support may be required.

Once in post and trained, the Student Advice Coordinator will be to have expert knowledge in the front-end use of MyAttendance and MyEngagement - to be able to run reports from both systems to help determine where students may require intervention and support due to non-attendance and non-engagement with studies. The coordinator will work closely with the MyAttendance and MyEngagement Business Managers as well as other key stakeholders across professional services, university colleges and schools to determine an escalation plan for students not attending or engaging with studies.

You will co-ordinate the support to students requesting assistance and work closely with our other Professional Support Services to provide.

Other responsibilities will include leading regular meetings with our technical teams to oversee how MyAttendance and MyEngagement are being maintained and developed, with an eye on continuous improvement which in turn will involve leading regular meetings with the external suppliers of MyAttendance and MyEngagement. The role will develop and run a university community of practice inviting feedback from academic and professional service colleagues, whilst leading short and longer-term campaigns arounds student and staff communications and training around using MyAttendance and MyEngagement.

The Student Advice Coordinator will support and line manage a Student Support Adviser, who will help to support the Attendance and Engagement work and may line manage other Student Support Advisers, allocating work and monitoring achievement against objectives and timescales, training team members and carrying out performance development reviews. Student Support Advisers provide advice to students on the following:

- Programme-related issues, options and module choices
- academic regulations, procedures and rules
- transferring to other programmes within the University
- personal circumstances
- what to do if unforeseen personal or medical issues affect their studies or a assessments
- Changing Direction. Conversations regarding withdrawing from the University or taking time out from study
- Pregnancy support - we work with the student and the academic department to agree a plan to support their studies.
- Student Support Advisers can also help to co-ordinate support by signposting or referring students to other specialist services where appropriate.

**About you**:
To succeed in this role, your experience should include:

- Good organisational skills and broad-based administrative experience in a professional or specialist service within a large, complex organisation, such as Higher Education.
- Providing advice on complex regulatory and procedural matters.
- Providing professional advice to staff, including managers, in other departments.
- Working with complex data base systems with the ability to extract, analyse and interpret data to produce reports and present information to others and use evidence-based reports to reflect and make future recommendations.
