Skilled Foam Cutter, Dover

Key skills Required.
- Competent use of foam cutting bandsaw.
- Extracting the correct information from the foam orders & translating it to cutting the foam block to its maximum yield.
- Rounding the front edge of the foam cushions using a bull nose machine.
- Wrapping foam cushions in a polyester wadding using spray adhesive.
- Packing cushions & labelling ready for despatch to the end user.
- Measuring customer’s furniture & making new foam cushions from the measurements.
- Liaising with the office regarding foam orders.

**Responsibilities**:
- Material Preparation: Select appropriate foam materials based on project requirements, including factors such as density, thickness, and type of foam. Ensure that materials are properly stored and handled to maintain their quality.
- Reading customer orders and Specifications: Review customer orders, technical drawings, and design specifications to understand the required dimensions, shapes, and details of the foam components.
- Setting Up Equipment: Set up and calibrate foam cutting machinery.
- Ensure that equipment is in proper working condition and meets safety standards.
- Precision Cutting: Operate machinery and tools to cut foam materials with precision, following the provided specifications. This may involve making straight cuts, curved cuts, bevelled edges, and intricate shapes as required by the project.
- Quality Control: Regularly inspect the cut foam components to ensure they meet quality standards, tolerances, and design specifications. Identify and address any defects, discrepancies, or imperfections.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on cutting equipment to keep it in optimal condition. Address minor technical issues and liaise with maintenance personnel for major repairs through the office.
- Material Efficiency: Optimize the use of foam materials to minimize waste and maximize cost-effectiveness.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of materials used, cuts made, production rates, and any quality-related information. Provide reports to supervisors as needed.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols while operating cutting machinery and handling foam materials. Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with other team members, such as production staff and the office, to ensure effective communication and a smooth workflow.
**Requirements**:
- Additional technical training or certifications in foam cutting, machining, or related fields are advantageous.
- Proven experience in foam cutting, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Proficiency in reading technical drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with different types of foam materials, their properties, and best practices for cutting them.
- Ability to operate and maintain foam cutting machinery and tools effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Problem-solving skills to address cutting challenges and quality issues.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and practices in a manufacturing environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a team.
- Adaptability to changing project requirements and deadlines.
